There are many ways to save money.
You can save money in a piggy bank of some kind.
You can save money at an actual bank savings account.
Plug money away in an IRA, Roth IRA, or 401(k) program.
You can pay down debt thus saving money in interest and freeing up more credit for emergency use.
You can save money by cutting coupons and buying at bargain prices ... living a more frugal life style.
You can save money by paying bills on time, lowering your interest rates, insurance premiums, and avoiding late fees.
Create an automated savings program !!! This way however you do save, you won't have to put much effort into it.

Earn interest on your checking account(s). You can compare rates here:
Buy bread at a day-old bread store and freeze the loaves until you need them.
When grocery shopping, look at the unit price of the item to determine the best buy. Cost divided by units = cost per unit (for example, per ounce). Lower is better.

There are many ways in which you can save yourself money, but it takes discipline and a bit of planning ahead.

buy things that are only on sale and if you really need it, not want it.
or you can try to budget yourself on how much money you should spend.
