Why DO Cleveland and Detroit Hate Each other?

Question

Why do these cities hate eachother so much? Some rivalries between cities I understand (like for example San Francisco vs. LA because they are the polar opposites of the California spectrum and also happen to be the two biggest cities in California and thus they each want to wrestle the power and status away from the other side, they want people to think of their city first when they think California ). This rivalry has always puzzled me however because these two cities have a lot in common becuase they are both rough industrial cities on Lake Erie with bad repuatations. The sports rivalries between the towns are not the root of the rivalry itself but instead a way for the cities to play out this rivalry. Since the cities have a war they play out a war through sports. However I just dont understand what this rivalry is about.  Perhaps its just natural to hate the city that is most like your own?

Pittsburgh and Cleveland hate each other more, because of sports.

I've lived in a Cleveland suburb for seven years and before that I lived near Detroit and was not aware that the two cities hate each other.  I know a lot of Clevelanders hate Pittsburgh because of the Steelers.  But there are quite a few Pittsburgh fans who live in the Cleveland area, too.  There's the OSU vs. U of M rivalry but that's statewide.  What makes you think the two cities "hate" each other?

you asked this in the Detroit section and I will say it again, I will root for the Lions if they aren't playing the Browns. 

Most of it is sports rivalry, but they don't hate each other, I live closer to Detroit but I root for all Cleveland teams, but there are a lot of Detroit fans in Toledo (unfortunately) so I hear both sides of the story.  I don't think there is a hate though I like going to Detroit to the casino and seeing the Indians play at Comerica, just like friends of mine go to the Jake with me to see the Tigers in Cleveland. (always going to say "the Jake')

so it's not a city rivalry mostly s sports rivalry and really only in baseball and basketball.

I didn't know Cleveland & Detroit hated each other. I knew that Ohio and Michagan have some kind of college football thing going, but never heard of Cleveland & Detroit. 
Their both very poor cities, I think they have better things to focus on than how much they hate eachother.

People from Cleveland generally do not like Pittsburgh because of the Steelers and Browns rivalry, and Ohioans dont like Michigan because of the OSU and MSU rivalry. 

its all sports related. we really have no reason to hate them. just bc of football.

Since when does Cleveland hate Detroit? Cleveland hates Pittspuke, Ohio hates the Wolverines, the Tribe hates Boston and the Yankees. Detroit? Who cares about Detroit?

Because they are full of gangs and people who are going no where and are not going to get anywhere and are addicted to crack and malt liquor and had 6 kids at the age of 22. They sit around and eat up welfare hoping for seconds and lazy. They also feel sorry for themselves and b*tch about how bad they have it and how terrible and dangerous their neighborhood is when they and their " baby daddy" tear the place up... that is why- they are exactly alike.
