Reformat C Drive?

I want to reformat my c drive. I have the gateway operating system cd but let me clarify that my computer has been updated/upgraded and it WILL NOT let me run the cd because there is a newer version of windows on the computer than what is on the cd. I have tried several time with no success.

Update:

it WILL NOT let me run the cd. AT ALL , When i restart and it says: press any key to boot from disk. i press a key and it just sits there. i tried starting it manually and it gave me a msg about the version of windows being newer than whats on the cd

Update 2:

I do not have the cd from the current version. I took it to a repair shop because it completly crashed but I wanted to save my pictures, which they did, but they did not give me a cd.

Update 3:

How would I do a clean install if the cd will not boot.

Update 4:

so, is there no way just to simply reformat your c drive without disks?

If you can erase/reformat the hard drive first, then you should be able to use the original restore CD. Did you upgrade the operating system? If so, can you boot from the newer CD and do the restore from there?

Another question - are you trying to run the restore CD with the computer on? What you need to do is boot the computer with the restore CD in the drive. Make sure your boot priority is CD-ROM first (in the BIOS setup screen) then make sure it boots from your CD - it should let you erase and reformat from there.

ADDED: You could download and make a bootable CD that will let you boot into a command prompt, then format the drive, then try booting again from your restore disc. Try bootdisk.com for a bootable image that you can write to a disc. Be sure the image will include the format command.

try Hiren boot cd. powerful (but not legal) utilities, with very powerful tools that almost every hardware tech would use.

it can help you reformat your entire drive. and then you can run your restore cd .

Hiren cd can be found in most bit torrent web sites.

if you are not sure what is bit torrent. wikipedia it. at wikipedia.org

  • Choose to do a clean install (it should prompt you to delete the operating system that's installed I believe it's D to delete) then choose opt for the quick format and install.

nicely its slightly to late now, yet b4 you probably did the wipe you will desire to have saved all your drivers(.dll information) to a flashcontinual or something so as that u would desire to deploy them back after the cleanup. Umm, in case you realize the precise call or serial type of your hardware you're able to desire to in all probability look them up on line and get carry of the drivers from there.

reboot your computer and it will ask you to hit F6 or something to set up your computer and when you do it just try it from there.
