single mums earnings?
I read in the paper today that Labour's former welfare officer, Frank Field, has written a report stating........'a single mum who worked 16 hrs per week and was paid tax credits would pocket £487!!!!!!!!!!!
Could someone please explain how this could be possible because I cant believe it?

it depends on you circumstances theres on online calculator below. Depends what your gross income is a year, how many children you have, the ages, if any are disabled, if you are disabled etc so theres lots of things that can effect the amount of child tax credits and working tax credits.

say they earn about £90 a week tax free wages, then get around £55 working tax credit, then £48 child tax credit a week, then £18.60 child benefit, then get full housing & council tax benifit............ thats £211.60
take the housing & council tax benifit thats say £74.90 a week
total £286.50........ thats £14,898 a year of tax free earnings & benifits paid by the tax payer........... i can believe that
£487 i think is a huge over estimate

I dunno neither. I read it and blew a fuse. I am a Mum, work my socks off in a full time job and get a 'whopping' £54 per month towards my Childcare costs
