If you want the same output as that of the speakers to the headset(any headset not only usb), it is not possible unless you buy some 1 to 2 wire splitters for audio (for wires search frontx.com). If you want different outputs, one through speakers another through headset, there are 2 things to be taken care of,
1. the headset must come with some software that makes windows recognize the headset as an audio output.
2.Once it is connected or inline with the system note that the audio output changes to the headset. So if you want different outputs through speakers and headphones, first connect the headphones, then open audio properties (Start > Control Panel > Sound, Speech and Audio Devices > Sounds and Audio Devices), open Audio tab and change it to your speakers. In the program which gives you the output to the headphones, open its properties or options or preferences (box that gives you options) and change the output to headset. However note that most of the internet messanging programs give you this option but not most media players (99%). So only programs that give this option can be used for different simultaneous outputs. Also note that the method is same if your system is having front side audio outputs (desktops) and you wish to use wired headphones. In this the motherboard supports different audio outputs using its hardware, but for usb, it depends on your motherboard, but still it works, whether hardware enables or software simulated, I guess it doesnot matter. Be careful for media players, you need the audio output option. If you can't identify your default devices, in Run type "dxdiag" without the quotes, it displays complete hardware info. Select audio to see which is your default device.

It is not possible to run the built in or plug in speakers at the same time as the headset because the audio output is redirected to the usb headset automatically when the headset is plugged into the computer.
Plus, there is really no reason to do both, if you think about it.

aha i just had this problem 2 weeks ago and was able to figure it out. ( provided you needed the usb headset to work for skype like I did) Go into your sound setting in control panel and set all of the default sound settings to your regular computer speakers. this will bring everything back to how it was before you added the headset. now go into skype and choose tools>options>audio settings and make the headset your choice for microphone and speakers.( not windows default device) now you should be able to listen to sound on your computer like before but when you want to use skype the headset will work.
hope it helps.

the 1st element i could do is verify administration panel > sound and audio contraptions to make helpful not something is muted. in case you plug the headphones back in and additionally you get sound, then that's in all probability not the sound card. i understand you in all probability checked all of this, yet i will point out it besides... some desktops have on-board sound on the MB besides to a valid card. consequently you will have 2 available "green" output ports to plug interior the cable. be sure you're using the right one if this is so. additionally, some modems have ports for sound additionally. be sure you're actually not mistakenly using a sort of. I had an occasion the place I fastened someones pc at my domicile and each little thing labored completely. while the guy delivered it domicile he suggested he had no sound. I went via each little thing back purely to verify that the audio equipment he replaced into using had a activate them to compliment an "enter gadget." Do your audio equipment have considered one of those change? ultimately, if all else fails i could in basic terms reinstall the sound card drivers. you in all probability have them on a disc that got here with the pc. If not you will get them from Gateway or Realtek.
