    Three possible ways:

    1. Press Alt+0178. That is, press and hold the Alt key, and type the numbers 0178 from the numeric keypad (not the top row of number keys) on your keyboard.

    2. Click on Insert | Symbol, click on the superscript 2 symbol, and click on OK.

    3. Type the 2 along with any other desired text in a cell, press Enter, click on the cell, press F2, select the 2, click on the Home tab, click on the little arrow at the bottom right corner of the Font group, check the Superscript box, and click on OK.

I have the same question. But non of you answered it so far. The question is how do you put a square root symbol into excel. Typing this "^2" is for math. I am not using it for a math equation. This is for a label. And I do not have a number keypad on the right. It's 2014, no one uses big keyboards anymore unless you're an accountant. Now you can always go to Insert tab and click on Symbols button, but I have no idea where in there it is. There are so many categories and symbols. Does anyone know what category the squared symbol is in?
