Going to Reno for the first time with my wife this spring. Please give your opinions for the BEST and WORST experiences in each category below.
1. Place to stay
2. Place to eat
3. Place to drink
4. Place to people-watch
5. Place to play the slots
Qualifiers: We want to stay on the downtown "strip"; we are not renting a car.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Stay at Harrahs or Silver legacy if you want to be downtown, though the two southern casinos (about 3 miles away from downtown) are much nicer....they are Atlantis and Peppermill. As far as food, BEST BUFFET without question is Atlantis, second best is eldorado....avoid completely eating at fitzgeralds or circus circus (unless its just sandwich and fries at 3am, than its just fine) other good restaurants....Biscottis at Peppermill , Dolce at Grand Sierra , the Steakhouse at Harrahs, LOTS of good food, also best vietnemese restaurant in the world Pho 777 is on e 2nd right by harrahs...as far as drinking, Im not sure what your age and scene is, but Rum Bullions in Silver Legacy is nice, as is Sapphire in Harrahs....as far as slots....what do you play...I play multiline pennys, and I have good luck at Atlantis and Eldorado....Eldorado is very liberal with the comps too..., are you flying in? All the major hotels have free shuttles, just call and ask....also downtown is great people watching, Just avoid venturing to far outside the corridor in east or west directions after dark, it is surrounded by some pretty seedy areas...
