Easy riddle, but very clever - saw it in a childrens book last week?

At the age of four, I answered to Ivy,

At six, my name was Vi.

At 40 I felt I could really excel

At anything I'd try

At 54 you could call me Liv,

But I knew I was getting old,

When at 99, I had a dreadful feeling

Of being really cold.

Update:

Ok so far, but what are they exactly?

Update 2:

Excellent Drop the phone - I struggled with the last one myself at first.

Source(s): edit: it already says so in the riddle, but ok. IV is 4 VI is 6 XL would be 40 LIV is 54 and IC is 99. edit: glad to see my highschool Latin is good for something :-)

If they hadn't said Roman Numerals, I wouldn't have gotten it. Thanx, folks, but it's only worth 5 now.
