Pregnancy and Pheromones...funny question?
I am needing to know if pregnant women give off different pheromones when pregnant and can animals sense this. My cat and husband is acting really weird towards me. Husband not really worried about, but I started thinking what could cause some of these distant reactions from both. My cat doesn't lay on my lap anymore, and this morning hissed at me and her fur raised up on her back and her tail got real fluffy like she wanted to attack me! it was funny, but I am curious about a scent that pregnant women might give off....anyone know?

I have heard of quite a few people who noticed changes in their pets during pregnancy. Animals can sense a lot more than we can and probably notice the changes in your body, even if they aren't noticeable to other people or even yourself yet. There is speculation that animals know we're pregnant because of changes in the hormones and pheromones that we produce, but as far as I know there hasn't been any research to prove it.
For me personally, my dog acts much more loving toward me, and my cats are more distant.
Good luck with your pregnancy! :)

I think your pheromone scent does change. My cat has been acting differently towards me too. She's seeking me out alot more than normal and HAS to be in the bed with me if I'm there. She's normally very stand-offish, so I know its the hormone changes. I keep joking to my husband that after the birth, she'll "dump" me for the baby.

There should be more research on this. I think pets know before a BFP even shows up. With my pregnancy I had to constantly push my cat away, close doors properly behind me, I even recall running between rooms with him chasing me. If I said no to sitting on me, he's try getting on my lap slowly one foot at a time. It's funny, and affectionate. I would just overheat, and I'm one who loves my personal space. Be interesting if it happens again.

When I was pregnant, my dog was seriously protective of me. She'd bark at anyone coming down the dock towards the boat, put herself between me and anyone else, even getting upset at my husband when he tried to hug me. It stopped after the baby was born, now, she's protective or "her" baby! Animals can sense something is different, exactly how, I have no idea.

my cat now acts weird but she went the opposite way, she went really clingy always on my lap purring now, tries to sleep on my tummy at night, cries if I lock her out our room at night before she was really independant and never went on my lap only came home for grub!
