I have some in my liquor cabinet at home - made in North Carolina. It is clear, and potent, but enjoyable when taken straight and just sipped like a fine bourbon or scotch. You need to know your source though as not everyone who tries to make it knows what they are doing.

Yep, tasted it but did not especially like it. Moonshine come off the still clear. You burn some sugar over a fire in a spoon and stir that into the moonshine to give it the color of what you know as Whiskey. The first of the batch that comes off of the still is the most potent. ( alcohol content or proof) The later part of the batch is weaker. To enjoy a fine drink leave the distilling to the masters.

Moonshine is hard to acquire, HOWEVER... Everclear is legal (expect for California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia). Everclear is a brand of neutral grain spirit that is available at concentrations of 75.5% alcohol (151 proof) and 95% alcohol (190 proof). It has no taste. It only burns. Actually on the label it tell you not to drink it straight because you can suffer from vapor lock. As a fun little side note, you cannot drink it out of plastic shot glasses, because they will melt. Check the import section if you are having problems finding it.

There are thousands of different kinds of moonshine. Most moonshine is made with corn. It all depends on what kind of wash is distilled. If using corn you get like a whiskey. If you go the easy way its sager water and turbo yeast that makes like a 190 proof vodka. That also fuel grade ethanol you can burn in your car.But moonshine these days is mush better than the store bout. very smooth

Yep but I'd drink anything. The novelty aspect of it made it fun too. A friend shared a pop bottle full of moonshine with me, we had a blast. Then I got wasted and ended up throwing up on the bus.

Years ago, back in the middle sixty's, I was in my late teens and I dated this girl who's next door neighbor was an old retired man that made his own brew. Sometime he would invite us over just to visit, he was a lonely man and didn't have many friends. I remember one time when he offered us a drink and being under aged and didn't get too many chances to drink, we accepted his invitation. He opened up two bottles and we saw this puff of green vapor rise up as he popped the tops. We drank one bottle of the strong tasting stuff. I wasn't a golden color but clear as water. I don't remember the taste much, but I do remember getting a buzz. We said good by and thanked him for everything and went back home. I told my mom that I didn't feel good and was going to bed. Now for your questions, I don't think that I cared to much for the taste but I did like the buzz. Thanks for taking me back in the days.

Yes I have tried it. It burned all the way down. I think it ate a whole in my throat and stomach. When I smelled it, all my nose hairs fell out. I was wasted off of a few sips. It was the strongest thing I have ever tried and I have tried allot, but I would do it all again.

I have. I was working on a film project in 1968 with Les Blank (who has made films about bluesman Lightnin' Hopkins and GARLIC !!!), and he toted it up from somewhere deep Down South. It was absolutely clear and very potent. I don't remember "flavor," just the effect.
Would I try it again? Mebbe. If I trusted the "source."

Loved it.
Moonshine is general though-
what I had was corn whiskey.
Fiery, delicious, not for every night.
But everywhere has their own moonshine,
we make alot of corn whiskey in America
simply because we have so much corn.
I've heard of people distilling their own grappa in Italy.

Iv had a brush with lighting in a dusty bottle. A real treasure, we found a quart mason jar full in our grandparents cabin after they passed, Clear as water but a unforgettable scent...it is smooth as it engulfs you in flames. I love the stuff and wonder where Ill replenish my stash...of course it is reserved for the greatest celebrations...its a whole new drunk!
