Baking help, let me try again......?

I want to initate my new KitchenAid Mixmaster, I can bake, just not something I usually do. Can you suggest a favorite recipe I might want to use to initiate it?

I read both of your questions. Do you want an actual recipe?

I'm assuming your KitchenAid Mixmaster is the big one with the bowl - heavy.

I used to make cookies and cakes with a spoon and with the cake I would on occasion beat the eggs with the hand mixer. My great-aunt told me about the KitchenAid Mixmaster and how she couldn't live without it and had hers for years and years. Hubby gave me my own about 4 yrs ago and I'll never do things by hand again!! Really saves time and wrists.

I even talked my Dad into buying my Mom one for Christmas. We "christened" hers with a batch of Cinnamon Rolls - her absolute favorite. Since then, whenever I go down to visit them, I make up batches and batches of Cinnamon rolls, let the dough rise, make the rolls, and place them in aluminum cake pans, let rise again, cover, and freeze. I must have made 8-10 batches when I was down there during the fires in California. Now they can pull out a tray at a time, place in the fridge overnight, and bake them in the morning for breakfast.

So, I suggest you make Cinnamon rolls. The recipe for bread that comes with the mixer is a fairly good recipe. Roll it out to a rectangle, pour melted butter over it (one cube per batch) just shy of the edges. Then sprinkle on the cinnamon until it is over all the butter (more if you love cinnamon). Then sprinkle on the white sugar until it is no longer absorbed by the butter. Then add either chopped walnuts or chopped pecans (I prefer pecans but my mom likes both in it). Roll it up from the long side, bringing in the short edges as you roll. Pinch it closed and then take a piece of dental floss and slip it under the bottom of the roll, bring it around like you are going to tie a knot, and bring the ends together - this will make a nice even slice. Make each slice about 2" thick and place in a sprayed aluminum pan. Have them not quite touching each other. Cover with saran and let rise for 30 minutes. Now you are at the point where you can pop them in the freezer for later or pop them into the oven. The sugars will melt and form a glaze on the bottom of the cinnamon roll. When it's done (golden brown on top), place a piece of aluminum foil on your counter and flip the pan over so the juices in the bottom will run down the sides of the cinnamon rolls. These are more like a combination cinnamon/pecan roll. Very good. No more kneading by hand!!!

Almost forgot to add - the amount of time you spend on these is minimal. You wait the 2 hours for the bread to rise but the making of the bread is very quick.

  • OK, I saw your other questions. Apparently nobody understands that you asked for a recipe :P.

I wish I had the Mixmaster! Want to get one ASAP! Love them.

Depending on your taste and how much time you have, here are a few suggestions:

***Cherry cheesecake - this is the recipe I use for cheesecake:

(I make a little more crust for a slightly thicker crust.)

***Cookies: If you're in the mood for cookies, I recommend the Toll House recipe - undercook them very slightly and you will get the perfect cookie once they're cooler.

Here's a blog I definitely recommend that has GREAT recipes the lady tested herself:

    I would suggest Banana Bread

Or if you have time, Strawberry Cream Cake.

And there's nothing like a good chocolate cake:

Try a cake or cupcakes. cookies are hard to do and they require more time. Cake is easier.

You don't have to bake to use it, make mashed potatos!
