FAFSA, My EFC is 0?

I just filled for my FAFSA and got a quick response back. They say my EFC is 0...is that a good thing?

My mom makes just a little more in a year than what the cost of my college will cost for a year. So I'm assuming the EFC = 0 is a good thing?

Update:

woohoo, I'm excited! I can't wait to hear information from my college, University of Michigan-Flint.

My mom got her W2's and taxes filled already so I'm pretty sure the 0 will not change.

An efc of 0 is very good. If your parents haven't completed their 07 tax forms they should do so now and you should correct your fafsa if you estimated.

An efc of zero means you would qualify for the maximum amount of federal Pell grant (about 4500 next year) to help pay for the cost of your education. You would also likely qualify for Work study and possibly state grants as well.

    Good luck.

  • Yes your EFC- Estimated Family Contribution being 0 is a good thing. This basically says that you educational institution does not require your family pay for your college expenses. Therefore makes you eligible for Student Loans (Sub/Unsub), Grants, Scholarships (based on need), and Work Study (untaxed wages from the government that is gained through campus employment).

an efc of 0 is amazingly solid! efc is your envisioned relatives contribution. what it truly is asserting is that your loved ones isn't assisting you with the expenditures of school, and consequently the government needs to furnish you provides and loans to pay on your college. utilizing late may be somewhat problematical, because of the fact maximum help is going by making use of want and because your want is larger than others, you should be ok. touch your monetary help consultant and ask once you're apprehensive. they would be able to alleviate your fears greater suitable than any people.

yes, efc stands for estimated family contribution. when it is at zero is means that colleges should not expect your family to contribute, and therefore you should be able to get grants and scholarships. good luck.
