Try this online calculator to see what various withholding levels will cause to have taken out of your check: http://www.taxbrain.com/taxcenter/w4calculator.asp
By the way, I think it's GOOD to owe (as long as it's not too much). If you pay too much up front, it's like giving the government a free loan. (You give them your money every paycheck, then they give you back the extra WITHOUT INTEREST next April.)
In my opinion, the only people that should overpay their taxes and get a refund are those that are unable to control their spending and therefore won't have the money when it's time to pay the taxes. If you save some money from every check, you'll have the money to pay the extra taxes in April, plus you will have earned interest on it from the bank all year so you'll actually have MORE than if you sent too much in from your checks and then got a refund.

you're able to rigidity the difficulty by employing for a CPP or EI ruling from the CRA. There are types which you're able to finished and deliver to the CRA, and then the CRA could be sure no remember if or no longer you have been an worker or self-employed. The business enterprise could then be obligated to withhold the CPP and EI expenditures. throughout the approach, the CRA could definitely be contacting the business enterprise for advice with a view to end their overview. The business enterprise can't technically hearth you for this, yet they could "discover yet another excuse". in case you checklist the earnings as self-employment, you would be on the hook for earnings taxes, and CPP for specific. earnings taxes are on the comparable cost as somebody employed, yet there could weren't something withheld, and each little thing could could return out of pocket. CPP is payable at double the customary cost because of the fact in a common worker/business enterprise courting, the business enterprise is had to tournament the charges that are withheld out of your pay. A self employed person will pay the two the business enterprise and worker parts. Self employed persons do no longer qualify for standard EI advantages. you may decide into the EI software and pay expenditures, yet this could in straightforward terms be for maternity, ailment, and compassionate care advantages, no longer for standard activity-loss advantages. In the two case, the earnings you have earned accordingly some distance is definitely going to be project to earnings tax, and you're able to be putting aside approximately 30 to 35 % of your pay on your tax invoice on the tip of the 365 days.
