Random musical noises coming from Microsoft Vista laptop??

My roommate's laptop (with Vista) makes these random noises all the time. It's always like musical, or birds, or some kind of little jingle.

She knows they are noises specific to Microsoft Vista, but neither one of us know what exactly they're FOR? They're not for when you open a window or close something, or anything logical, they are totally and utterly random. She's not even touching the computer sometimes when it makes one.

There's about 3 or 4 noises a day, almost all are different. There's nothing wrong with the laptop, it's not that kind of noise. It kind of reminds me of when AIM would let you set a "sign on" noise, but it's not that, she's not even on AIM sometimes and it still makes a noise.

Does anyone have any idea what these noises are, why it makes them so randomly, and/or how to turn them off?

Update:

Both answers take me to the same place.

Unfortunately, there are no sounds set up. Under "Sound Scheme", it says "No Sounds" as the selected scheme.

The options there (sound schemes) are for the computer to make a sound when you open a window, empty a recycling bin, block a pop-up, etc etc, but the computer is not making noises for any of those things (which would make sense). They are just random.

So I regret to inform you, but neither answerer solved our dilemma, sorry...

merely bought a working laptop or laptop from Woolworths 2 days in the past and that i had to pay one greater £ninety 9.ninety 9 for Microsoft place of work domicile & pupil from Argos. so far as i will verify till the seller is offering it as a particular supply then you definately ought to purchase place of work seperately. merely had a look into my Microsoft Works folder and all it has is .dll data.
