synthetic motor oil for zx6r?

i have just bought a 03 zx6r 636 with 5700 miles on it and i am going to switch to synthetic motor oil and i am going to be doing it myself. what is the best or one of the better brands to use, and what weight should i use. please give me the exact name and weight or whatever it reads on the bottle so i can not mess this up. oh yeah please dont be retarded and tell me just to use synthetic motor oil for an automobile because i know that it will eat away at my clutch. well basically if you are nick the new guy like i am do not bother giving me pointers that are sure to end in a catastrophical disaster on my end. thanks.

right use any motorcycle synthetic oil 10-30 most motorcycle shops will tell you which oil to use & grade, also they will not sell you car oil which is no good for motorcycles ,

make is a personal thing, silcoline, motul, rockoil, castrol,

but allways make sure its motorcycle oil & you will have no problems,

i have never had oil or oil related problems or replaced a clutch & the last bike i ran for 13 years & never had to go in the engine,

go to castrol web site it will tell you everything you need to know about car oil & motorccle oil, semi & synthetic & normal they are all mineral oils will all mix & the differance is the synthetic are chemicaly modified & have smaller moleculer chains than ord mineral oil that has long chains,

also motorcycle oils have diferant addetives in them than car oil as most motorcycle oils have wet clutches CARS HAVE DRY CLUTH SO HAVE MORE OF THE SLIPPY ADATIVES ALSO CARS DO NOT RUN AS HOT AS MOTORCYCLES,

for all the people who doubt got to the manufacturers site's or just read the back of the oil cans it will tell you what adatives are in,

There are two answers to this question... Every oil on the market, conventional or synthetic, receive comparable additives such as anti-corrosives and detergents and so on. These additives are specifically formulated to sacrifice themselves in order to protect your engine. In other words, they get used up over time. Your manufacturer ran lots of tests and estimated how long their engine will take to use up those additives, and it is usually a good idea to stick with the manufacturer's recommended oil type and change interval. That said, both conventional and synthetic oil can continue to lubricate almost indefinitely, even after the additives have been used up. Yes, technically, synthetic will last longer, but running oil without the added protectants will ruin your engine, so the point is really moot

Amsoil. I have been using it for a long time it is the only true full synthetic left and it stays good for a long time . it will look dark right away but that's normal . Ask a dealer they will tell you the oil weight depends on where you live. I have the 05 636 and i beat it i have never had a clutch problem (i don't like the slipper clutch ) and my 01 zixer was beat until 05 and i never had a problem.

Amsoil 10W-40 Motorcycle Oil. If you want to see how it compares with several other brands in categories like shear stability, foaming, gear wear, etc. check out the 28 page Motorcycle Oil Whitepaper:

    http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g2156.pdf

Some of the brands tested include Bel-Ray, Motul, Valvoline, Mobil-1, Lucas, Royal Purple. . . worth a read before you make a decision.

As a previous person posted, Amsoil makes filters too with synthetic nanofibers instead of paper media. Your bike takes the EaOM103.

If you decide you want more info on Amsoil check out my website, feel free to contact me with questions http://www.number1synthetic.com/

If you can find it near you, I ship nationwide. good luck!

You would be better off using regular motor oil.

Most motor cycles, including yours, use a wet clutch. This means that your clutch is bathed in motor oil to keep it cool.

Synthetic motor oil is too slippery and will cause your clutch to slip. You could burn up the clutch before you do your next oil change.

You would be better off using any name brand motor oil and change it every couple of thousand miles.

It you can find one, use a Wix oil filter. It will cost about the same as one from a Yamaha dealer, but will filter much better.

Use the same weight the Yamaha recommends, even if you just have to use synthetic.

Check your owners manual for the proper weight of the oil. The guys behind the counter at most shops are not people I trust with my motorcycle. If it calls for 15w-50 like mine you will have to use 20w-50 as the 15w-50 is no longer made.

Amsoil rated very high as did Mobil in some independent testing.

I recommend that you go with Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40, which is highly rated, easily available, and formulated specifically for bikes. Don't be tempted to go with anything much heavier than 10W-40, as the tolerances in the 6R motor are rather tight and any extra viscosity will rob horsepower and slow you down.

Think it's too late, someone has already gotten to U and filled U to overflow w/ BS.

Except for the extended wear oils (these have caused clutch slippage) any synthetic oil is OK.

BUT, feel free to pay about $7/qt. for Redline or Golden Spectro anyway, and get an xtra qt. bc when u need it mc shops will be closed.

"please dont be retarded and tell me just to use synthetic motor oil for an automobile because i know that it will eat away at my clutch."

Source(s): switched MY Kawasaki to synthetic 20K mi. ago. [Rotella T] Biggest differance? shifts easier.
