My toy poodle has 1 engorged nipple. What is this?

My toy poodle will be a year old Feb. 10. I took her for her regular grooming today and the groomer showed me 1 enlarged nipple. She said that it is called an engorged nipple. She was in heat for the first time a couple of weeks ago. My groomer suggested that I get on the internet and try to find out if I should be concerned about it. I don't want to have to go to the Vet unless she needs to go. He is expensive. Our next appointment is in July for her yearly checkup which is obviously to long to wait. She hasn't been spayed. I want her to have babies later so I'm not going to do that. She is pure-bred. I'm trying to think of anything that could help. Thanks for all of your help and your answers to my question. I just love Yahoo Answers. Oh BTW when I looked online I couldn't find any help just a lot of sickos out there with porn...because I put in toy poodle and engorged nipple. So be careful if you search for info. Thanks again!!

Update:

I DIDN'T SAY THAT I COULDN'T AFFORD VET CARE. JUST THAT IS EXPENSIVE. IF IT ISN'T NECCESARY I DIDN'T WANT GO! I went just at the beginning of winter with her when she had a cold and spent about $70.00 and the vet wasn't even sure just thought that the antibotics would probably help...

It won't hurt her. If you can, just express the milk gently to ease the discomfort. Eventually the milk will be reabsorbed. It comes from the hormones related to her cycle.

Sounds like possible mastitis and it needs vet treatment. It is an infection of her teat.

Don't breed unless your dog is show champion and has had all its genetic health screenings -and the mate has the same. Being a purebred is not enough reason to breed. Spaying will prevent the problem you are now having.

Could be many things .. from cancer to just the fact that she might be going through a false pregnancy. If she is having a false pregnancy, be aware that you should have her spayed, cause dogs that do this are at higher risk of developing Pyometra.

If you had an infected nipple I bet you would be at the doctors right away. Infection = antibiotics. Antibiotics= going to the vet.

If you can't afford to get her vet care now you sure can't afford to breed her. My brother bread Rough Collies for several years. It cost him a small fortune for all the testing, showing and then pregnancy costs, time off work for whelping, operations when they could not have them on their own and stuff.
