70's appetizer?

Gotta put my thinking cap on here...Yes fondue was very popular....

shrimp cocktails,melon balls.

BBQ(sloppy jo's)tuna fish and egg salad sandwiches,herring,cheese and sausage.Ham logs(there kind of sweet thing baked)ham,beef and turkey sandwiches cut into triangles.

We even had pizza's.....hamburgers,fries and a malt was popular.

Kool Aid,lots of popcorn,popcorn balls,caramel popcorn,seafoam candy,fudge,chex mix,chips,pretzels,mixed nut cups with M&M's,bugels,frito's,corn curls,coke in bottles.(we would mix pretzels,corn curls,frito's and potato chips together...I still do)crock of cheese with bread sticks.

Lots of cookies and cakes.Everyone made brownies too.

Ooh, someone else had a Jello salad idea -- any kind of Jello salad would work. But as to how "appetizer-y" that is, that's a different question...

"In the seventies, party foods were pretty simple. Cocktail weenies, deviled eggs, crackers with "Cheese Wiz", and Hamburger Helper were some of the foods served then. One of the most popular was the fondue set, which came with a pot that you could heat chocolate, cheese or other sauce. It came with skewers in which you could place fruit or bread on, and dip into the heated sauce. Quiche, Chex Mix, submarine sandwiches, and the infamous Jell-O mold, also made their way to the party table back then."

You could go totally retro and get seriously authentic, or do an "upgrade" of something -- devilled eggs with a different spice or other ingredient mixed into the yolk part (I've tried devilled eggs with chopped cooked spinach stirred into the yolks, and those were GOOD).

Watergate Salad

1 (3.4 ounce) package instant

pistachio pudding mix

1 (20 ounce) can crushed

pineapple, drained

1 1/2 cups miniature

marshmallows 1 (12 ounce) container frozen

whipped topping, thawed

1/2 cup flaked coconut

1/2 cup maraschino cherries,

drained

DIRECTIONS:

1. In a large bowl, combine pudding mix and pineapple; mix well. Add marshmallows and 3/4 of the container of dessert topping (add more to get a creamier consistency). Toss in the coconut; mix well. Transfer to a serving dish and top with halved cherries and any extra coconut. Chill for at least an hour before serving. Will be good the next day.

well the seventy,s is when i was in my late teens and early twenty,s and canape,s prawn cocktail pate of all types were DE rigour of the time we thought we were so sophisticated ,.

eating snails and frogs legs any thing french or Italian sounding irrespective of it being actually french or Italian it just had to sound as if it was that was the important thing and it had to look good taste came a long way down the list of importance .

as it simply had to sound and look right darlings oh that's simply divine darlings.

i can not believe that's how we were back then but it is true i was there and saw it all first hand

Deviled Eggs

Definitly Fondue!! Also, mini quiches, little meat balls, melon balls and other cut up fruit, trail mix remember we were the health food nuts. A loaf of french bread or italian that you pass around and take a hunk off of. Have it w/cheese or dip
