Confused about unlocked phones?
I keep reading everywhere that if you have a SIM card you can purchase an unlocked gsm phone, insert any SIM card and be up and running...which is cool because the phone I am using has a SIM card, the thing that confuses me, is that our service is through NEXTEL which in many posts that I have read online says Nextel doesn't use a SIM or has IDEN type phones. I don't like the phones from NEXTEL, they're bulky and ugly. So my question is how do I determine if my NEXTEL SIM card will work in a gsm phone without spending a boat load of money on a phone first? Anyone have any insight or advice on this matter? Thanks in advance for you answers!!

Nextel's sim cards will NOT work with GSM phones. Sorry, but you are stuck using either Nextel's phones or unlocked Boost Mobile phones, as Boost Mobile is also an iDEN provider. Nextel has always been an iDEN provider. Nextel's phones that have been made since at least 2001 have sim cards. While both GSM and iDEN use sim cards, they are still two different technologies and are not compatible with each other.

You don't have a "Nextel SIM card" Your SIM card is through your company. The only company that you can't use unlocked phones with is Sprint. I have had T-Mobile, AT&T, and Cingular and used unlocked phones with all of them. Buy one put your SIM card in it and it will start right up, the only thing your going to have to do is to call 611 and have them send their internet package to you. Just explain to them that your using and unlocked phone and you need to get the internet and they will send it to your phone. It only takes like 2 min. Hope this helps!

confident you're able to try this you're able to do it with verizon to... it is going to cost a minimum of 50 to 60 funds to the main it relies upon on the place you pass maximum in all probability its going to be 50 through fact it costed me 50to get mine flashed.
