I don't get it. Why do some people hate wind generators?
When I see a wind generator,
I see progress...beauty in design,
I love the look of them.
Why do some people hate them?
Some say they make too much noise,
but I don't see anyone complaing about
the airplanes that make 4 times more noise at 5 times the distance.
Some say they kill birds, but I looked
that up and it is more myth than truth.
So...what is it really?

There are only two reasons that I found.
1) They are not natural looking. This seems to come from the people who believe nature should be pristine and not marred by signs of human activity. They are usually city dwellers.
2) They are not really very effective and are more a public relations ploy than anything else. This is usually from engineering types who have done the numbers crunching.
They are not really upset with the wind generation as much as they are upset that people think it will solve the energy problem.
As a result they regard wind generation as a dangerous distraction from solving what they see as a bigger problem.

Those are the only two real answers I have come across for why people don't like wind power.
I tend to look at wind power, tide power and solar power as partial solutions with niche applications where they are extremely effective.
------
In their place wind generators are excellent. In small scale applications they are superb. A small wind generator for an isolated residence, farm or on a small sail boat is a perfected use of the technology and much less expensive than connecting to a distant power grid. With a diesel backup it becomes extremely reliable.
The large wind-farms being touted as a green solution have almost always cost more in power to run than they made. This becomes quite dramatic when you add the costs of building them and keeping them working. To top that off they simply don't and wont generate enough power to have much effect on our requirements.
