Why do veterans go after military candidates' records?

They went after John Kerry for some reason, and now they go after McCain who's a republican...one of their own. Why?

No matter who the candidate, there is always some group that doesn't want him elected for various reasons. So those groups attack anything they can find to attack. Military service is easy to attack, it's a matter of public record.

From here on out, I think the only candidates that won't have their military service record attacked are those candidates that never served. Ironic, isn't it?

Kerry's critics questioned the truthfulness of his statements about his war record. The Swift Boat veterans were in similar units to that of Kerry's, so they have some idea of Kerry's view of the war in Vietnam. They took issue with statements made by Kerry after the war, about incursions into Laos and of atrocities witnessed.

I have heard critics of McCain's behavior as a POW in North Vietnam, however none of his critics happened to be there. I have not heard any of his fellow POWs come out against McCain.

read your quest. to my husband--he said that being in military is fine, but don't lie about when or what you did(as Kerry did). He said that some military people will believe that you turn into a traitor if you survived Vietnam prison camp. No matter what you believe in, John McCain has a strength of character that few people do. When you can find written truth about Vietnam, you realize just how vicious the Vietnamese soldiers were. Think about this--the poison on the end of the pungee sticks they hid in the ground was human feces. The soldiers would die slowly and horribly if treatment couldn't be given immediatly and most of the time that wasn't the case. American soldiers at that time were not trained that way. It was a different time, different era. Politicians just need to learn to tell the truth, not embellish.

YOU are correct at least 50% for me..

I went after John Kerry because his military record is a joke. He got three purple hearts for very minor band aid boo boos. He got a medal for deserting his post. He was a glory hog who put his men at risk. He did not serve in Vietnam for even 5 months.

I did not go after McCain because he was a POW for over 5 years. His record of service in a combat zone was over 12 TIMES greater than Kerry.

If a person serves in the military their record while serving in the military is open for people to question. As it shows alot about who they are.

Mcain has an impecable record. Was a POW had the chance to be let go becuase of who his father was but didnt leave becuase he didnt think he deserved special treatment.

John Kerry was caught telling many lies about his service. He didnt throw medals over the white house fence in protest, then he changed to he threw something over the fence but it wasnt medals, then he changed it to they were medals but not his???

He made claims of wide spread murders and slaughters with no backing for his claims, he mistakenly admitted that he took part in them then back peddled when he realized he would be held liable for them.

Kerry pretended to be some super war hero, when in reallity his badmouth the countries military. His actions after the war were dispicable. He needed to be called out on his record.

In John Kerry's book he said that he was ordered to go into Laos or Cambodia by the president of the U.S. That president being Mr. Nixon. However when John Kerry went,or supposedly went into this country, Mr. Nixon was NOT the president and could not order anyone to do anything. If Mr. Kerry obeyed this order then he was following an illegal order. He stated in his book he went into this country in December of 1968! Mr. Nixon did not become president untill Jan. of 1969.

The vets went after him because of this lie and many others in this book and his testimony before congress in 1972.

Now the left is trying to go after Mr. Mc Cain because they want people to think that he was a traitor when he was a prisoner or was in North Vietnam. Those who served with him in the camp have said this has not happen nor did happen.

What exactly can they say about John McCain? Yeah, he got shot down and was nearly beaten half to death for 5 years..ok.

As for John Kerry, his former comrades went after him because of his actions directly after his service. He slewed the reputation of members of the US armed forces for years during the 70's and then years later in his political career he attempted to portray himself as some kind of hero. He even called in favors with people to have medals added to his record decades after he was in the service.

His former comrades aka the "Swift Boat Veterans" called BS and he was found out.

"Equal justice under the law?" Not in (surprise surprise) m-A s s-achusetts:

63 year old Lawrence, MA school committee member James Stokes-- who claimed a 20 year career in the United States Marine Corps, during which he asserted he had won (and wore) a Purple Heart--

has today with much mutual self-congratulation all around plea bargained down to two MISDEMEANORS (!!!!) for "falsifying a government document" (his forged USMC honorable discharge) and... just sort of mutual hand flapping at that whole Purple Heart "thing."

Hardly surprising treatment for a liberal politician in the Commonwealth of m-A s s-achusetts with a far bigger fish swimming free as a birdie to mix animal metaphors.

So much for the Great & Glorious FEDERAL Law and its mandated FELONY penalties.

Of course, m-A s s-achusetts is Cloud Cuckooland in prestidigitations "implied" statutes out of thin air--and the Nacht-und-Nebel gavelled opposite--so the rule of law there is much as it was ... circa 1773.

Some animals are and apparently always will be more equal than others.

One of our own? Not all military are Republicans... some of us just care about what's best for the country regardless of who's at the helm.

Usually if someone is trying to beef up their military career to make themselves look better... they are the ones that get poked and prodded... like Kerry did.
