I have exactly the same on my computer.I take it the the drive is completely seperate from the one you have VISTA INSTALLED ON
if this is correct just connect the hard drive with the mirror image on and Vista will be on one drive and XP ON ANOTHER
YOU WILL HAVE TO INSTALL ALL THE HARDWARE DRIVERS ON TO YOUR XP DRIVE
THEN YOU WILL HAVE A DUAL BOOT SYSTEM.
YOU HAE TO KEEP PRESSING ESC EVERYTIME YOU START YOUR COMPUTER SO YOU CAN SELECT THE WHISCH SYSTEM TO BOOT UP

Dual booting has nothing to do with drive images. Its about being able to choose between 2 or more NATIVE installaions of operating systems of your choice.
If dual booting is the way you want it, Setup your drives with a partition for each OS (vista would need at least 15gb to run smoothly) and install XP first. Then install Vista. Vista automatically detects your XP installation and adds it to the boot menu. And thats it! You may now choose your desired OS!!
VERY important you install xp first.
Also, download software called EasyBCD for vista which will let you rename boot menu items, set the default OS to auto boot into, and the duration of the timer countdown.
Alternatively, you can run software from within Vista called VMWare Workstation, and you can run a virtual PC in a software environment. Create your VPC, run it, and install XP. Now you can have XP and Vista running at the same time.
