any commands to make e-mail attachments take less memory?

I know there is a simple command you can do that will allow files and attachments to take less memory witout zipping the file, but I can't remember it! Anyone know?

    You have to compress a file to make it smaller. You have to use a compression of one type or another - WinZip & WinRar just make the compression faster and smaller. Im not aware of a command code for compressing, could be, but never heard of one.
