Hard Drive Blues?

I know that hard drive will fail and this is just inevitable.

My ide hard drive tend to not be detected and I have to play with the power cable before it works again.

I was wondering if there were anything I chould or shouldn't do to prevent this problem prematurly?

    Internal/External? Would be helpful.

However you should visually inspect the power cable as well as the board where it connects. Make sure that the cable is firmly seated (and that the pins do not try to push out if its internal) by unplugging and re-seating it. You may also wish to try a different plug at this time.

Note drive can sometimes be sensitive as to alignment (old western digital drives were particularly bad for this) meaning odd angles will cause failure to detect.

As an added precaution if there is any important information you should back it up immediately.

    we need more info

when you say fail what u mean? Is it clicking/grinding? if so its on its way to dying - not much you can do there

If getting blue screens - well it could be about to die or it may be a operating system issue, in that case format/wipe the hard drive and re-install windows

worst case scenario it may be the system board (which I seriously doubt) just make sure the PC is off when u unplug any power cords.

Did you mean power cord for the PC? Or the power cables for the hard drive that connect to the system board?

    Is it an external drive?

Also try running defrag and disk clean utility, and PC Doctor do a search on google and you will find plenty of walk throughs on all this.

    Good luck,

The power cable isn't getting installed correctly, I have the same problem, jiggling the power cable seems to be the only thing that works.

Seems like either the connector is loose on the HD or the power connector. Try using another power connector.
