  • Windows Activation... Serious problem?

I've successfully activated windows soon after installing it for someone. (Media center edition) They called me and informed me of the error they were getting. This one is legit by the way.

After trying to update the adobe flash player, she restarted and when the computer was logging back on to windows, it showed a message saying that windows could not access the activation validation or something like that.

But it would log her off, even when I reboot into safe mode and redo the activation, booting in normal mode still gives the same results.

Help, I really don't have the time to reinstall windows til the weekend so I'm looking for a solution that keeps the existing OS.

    thank you.

  • Command Prompt, Regedit and similar commands don't work?

The problem is that when ever I open the command prompt it shuts down window explorer (explorer.exe) so then it restarts that process and the command prompt doesn't work.

Regedit and most of the windows commands has this same effect.

I've ruled out a virus since I've done a complete scan with over five different fully updated security suites.

I've tried checking the registry to see if it was disabled but couldnt find it.

Any help would be much appreciated

  • Very HIGH page file usage, at least 1.6GB?

Well my PC isn't running very smoothly of course. I've noticed that my page file usage was unusually high. So I set it very low since I have 3GB of RAM. It was still very high. So I disabled it totaly, and yes I've rebooted billions of times since.

Still no progress, The physical RAM stays normal, firefox is the current process that's using the most RAM. The RAM usage stays the same with page filing off or on.

Even on idle the pf stays at least 1.6GB, nothing lower.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  • Connecting TV to PC problem... TV- 1 composite input. PC - 1- S-video and 1 DVIport?

Okay, I have a pretty basic TV with only one composite video input. My graphics card (8500gt) has 1 VGA, 1 DV1, and one S-video output. I use the VGA port fir my monitor since that's the only one it can fit in.

The DVI port is free. I'm using the cables that came with the gpu. This cable allows me to connect an s-video cable or component cables via the s-video port.

I also have a little jack that supports s-video to composite but that doesn't work. I tried connecting my tv to the component output of my dvd player one at a time, it shows but in black and white. When I connect it to the component output from the PC nothing shows.

Can this be connected directly? or does this need to have a special electronic converter for it. If it can indeed be connected directly then just tell me which wires and I'll do some splicing... I got spares.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Internet browsing slow, download speed high.?

    Hello,

my internet browsing has gotten really slow.

Yes the latest versions java and adobe flash player and active x are installed. Pages take long to load not because of a slow internet connection cause if I start a download it runs at the full and even more speed.

My modem shows activity constantly when downloading but when browsing it accesses the net then stops for about 20secs then there's activity again.

Firefox is my default browser. I get the same problem with IE7.

Just installed firefox 3 yesterday and the problem still persists.

I reinstalled xp ( problem exists in vista too - dual boot ) it worked for about a day but it slowed down again.

I tried safari too, no luck.

Really not in the mood to reinstall xp right now, I did it so much that I can recite my cd-key.

Any other solution would be nice.

    Thanks.

  • Does this motherboard support any multiple core chip?

I have a MSI K8N Neo4-F. It currently uses a athlon 64 3000+ cpu but on the box it says it was designed for AMD athlon 64/FX/X2, I think the X2 is the dual core ones or is it AM2 socket(6000+ or something like that).

But in the mb manual, under mainboard specifications, it only mentions the athlon 64 and 64 FX.

Can my motherboard really support this chip?

it's a 939 socket. What's the best cpu I can get for it. Please tell me I could get something dual core.

  • Online Multiplayer Trouble?

I am having trouble with the online multiplayer sections of my PC games. The games work fine ( single player and multiplayer over LAN ) but when it comes to multiplayer online I don't even see a server. No matter how much I edit game network settings or disable the firewall I still have no access to online play while LAN works perfectly.

One thing too, the servers I'm trying to access aren't empty, they are pretty active,( call of duty 4 - lost planet - gears of war )

And I live in the Caribbean too.

  • Bioahock keeps crashing.?

I have Bioshock for the PC and it crashes at specific points yet it remains to be random.

For instance it would crash when I come into a room with a big daddy and it would crash and restart the PC. The only way I could pass that point is to run further ahead then save the game. If I reinstalled the game, I could go through that part of the game without crashing but encounter the same problem in a different spot.

I thought it was the hardware requirements but now that I have upgraded, It still crashes but instead of restarting the PC it would crash to the desktop. A little better but it stil is no good.

I save the game regularly so that when it crashes I could just resume. But now it crashes as i load the third level so I cannot progress.

    I'm desperate. Help please. Thanks.

by the way, my hardware exceeds the minimum specs and grahics is dx10 compatible. The problem exists both in vista and XP.

  • Display driver stopped responding.?

I had the nvidia 7300LE and the display driver stopped responding many times, especially during games. I downloaded the update for it, forceware 169.25. I installed it both on xp and vista (dual boot), but the driver kept on not responding.

I recently bought the nvidia 8500GT and with the stock drivers it stopped responding and with the latest update it stopped responding too.

What can cause this and how can this be solved. Thanks.

    AMD athlon 64 3000+ @ 2.2ghz

    2.5gigs RAM

  • PC Games and PC Gamers?

Okay the game developing industry is indeed a big business.

Game developers design games for different platforms and even multi-platforms.

Having a game exclusively on a specific platform can mean more sales for that platform.

In terms of hardcore games, the competitors are Xbox 360, PS3 & PC. All of them have multi-platform and exclusive games.

Why do PC gamers have to wait months even a year or more for games. Yes they add new content and new levels (sometimes), but PC gamers have nothing to do while console gamers play the life out of their games. > Assassins creed, gears of war, the halos - halo 3?, mass effect just to name a few.

Do you think this move shows that game developers are loyal to ALL their customers, or are they in just for the Benjamins.

  • Torrents, Torrents help me wit Torrents.?

I am having some problems with downloading torrents. For the ones that do start, the d-load speed is constant but as soon as I view a web page it goes to zero and then I have to stop it and start it over just for it to resume.

I don't know if it's that seed and peers thing is a factor. ( still don't know what they mean )

And some from certain sites just don't work! Is it because of where I live, Trinidad & tobago?

I'm using Bit Torrent by the way.

  • Should I upgrade my graphics first?

I am a PC gamer. I know and plan to upgrade my system to a quad core, sli nvidia, 4gigs ram, new HD, monitor and all that jazz.

That costs money so I am not doing it right away.

    I have an AMD athlon 64 3000+ 1.8ghz overclocked to 2.2ghz

    2.5gigs of DDR 1 ram

    Nvidia 7300LE PCI-e

I was wondering if I should ( just until I upgrade everything else ) buy a 8800gt/gs/gtx/gts SLI graphics card for some extra performance by the time. I have ddr1 ram so when I upgrade I would have to wait till I get the board, processor and ram, for some game enhancement.

Will the 8800 have a huge effect when compared to the 7300le?

By the way, my current system barely meets most game's minimum requirements, but I still run them, some better than others.

Gears of War, Assassins Creed, Crysis, Call of Duty 4

so I'm not looking for a cheap solution.

    Thanks

  • Yahoo answers question?

I asked this question but I will supply more details to clarify my situation. I now understand that an offensive question can be flagged as inapropriate and removed. About five of my questions have been removed and they aren't the slightest offensive.

One question I asked was for someone to get the stats and compare the 360, PS3 and PC for gaming capabilities. Upgrade advice, if 3.3 was an acurate vista rating for nvidia 7300le.

It pretty much is just tech stuff so how could these questions be removed if they are clearly nothing to report, thanks.

  • Xbox 360 - PS3 - PC match?

I'm a PC gamer but I'm not stupid, games perform wonderfully on consoles. Give me a 360 or PS3 any day and I'll willingly lose a night of sleep playing.

All I want to know is what pc hardware would be an equivalent to any of these consoles. It doesn't matter if the pieces don't fit and work as a real pc, I just want to know ( for the separate hardware components ) what graphics cards, sound, processors etc. would be the equivalent or better.

Just for the record I have a game pad and it controls well but no matter what, you can't beat a mouse and keyboard in a 1st person shooter. The PC wins hands down.

  • Is this disc drive problem reversable?

I have both windows xp and vista installed. Well vista has alot of problems but I'm still willing to put up with it and not condemn it totally. I have used the startup repair tool countless times and my vista disc is practically permanent in one of my drives.

Anyway, I got the BSD so did the whole repair routine. When I rebooted and logged in, the task bar displayed "installing driver........bios plug and play....Then, BAM. The BSD! This continued to happen untill I unplugged the both of my dvd drives.

    Drives in = no boot

    Drives out = good boot

Safe mode gets the BSD too, so is this fixable?

  • LAN Worries :-(?

Hi I posted this question a few months ago. I got some good answers but none of them solved my problem.

I got a break through when I changed the duplex settings from 100mbps to 10mbps so we were able to have a connection between the two PC's

But, I realy want it at 100. In the space of one year I have tried every thing firewall, various settings, testing of cables, workgroups you name it.

Now the machines bothe have new motherboards with new network cards 10/100/1000. The still only work at 10mbps but now, when it is set to anything other than 10mbps the icon in the taskbar shows connected for about three seconds and then unplugged for anothe three and that goes on forever.

You can look at my profile for further details from my other answers (it's too much to fit here) any new info would be appreciated.

And please, no simple answers like firewall and ip adresses and drivers. I dismantle and rebuild my PC for fun. So I obviously would have check those essential setings. Thanks

  • Can this monitor be repaired?

I have a monitor that is better than the current one I am using. I cannot afford a new one right now so I would like to use the better one. This monitor works fine, the only problem is that when I reboot the computer the monitor displays nothing. I know it is recieving some sort of information because the light goes from orange to green. It cant be my graphic card because this works fine on the other monitor. The monitor shows video only when I pull the cable out from the video card a few times. Can this be repaired?
