Windows XP boots up but stops after displaying the wallpaper.?
No task bar nothing. Just the wallpaper. I have to run the task manager and then run 'explorer.exe' for everything to load normally. How to fix this.
Thanks

Well, if 'explorer.exe' doesn't start automatically, you can set it manually:
1. In the Start Menu, click Run.
2. Type "msconfig".
3. Click on "Normal Startup" ("Diagnostic Startup" might work, but I'm not sure...)
4. Click "Apply" and restart.

As the computer boots into the O/S the last known good is what you currently have. Some start up program is crashing the explorer shell. Use MSCONFIG to eliminate excess startup programs (if you know what you’re doing). Check the error logs for both system and applications to see what program is crashing explorer and do a malware and virus scan.
