what are the reasons to go to college if i plan to become a police officer (LAPD)?

I am in my Junior year of high school. Second semester is here. I have my sights aimed at Joining the Los Angeles Police Department rather than Sheriffs.

To become a police officer, there is no need to have a college degree, however, I do plan on going to college for 4 years.

i'm just wondering what the advantages are of going to college if college credit is not necessary for the job.

what possibilities or special branches are opened with going to college?

what advantages are offered if i went to college first?

For one reason, in most departments it's tough to get promoted beyond a certain level without a degree.
