How do I open a Microsoft Word 2007 document file with an older version of MS Word?

save the document as a 2003 file

You cannot do this, without an extension that you have to download. If you cannot do this - save the file on your computer as an older Microsoft Word version.

if you cant save it as a 2003 version then you can down load a viewer. this is the same with all 2007 office applications

In Word Click the icon on the top left corner go to the save as menu and click (Word 97-2003 Document) and your sorted a .doc file

Then you should be able edit and open the documents.

In the future, while saving the file at school there will be a "save as type" box. Click it then click World 97-2003 (*.doc). Good luck with your homework. =)

when you save it, click save as.

in the menu under the document name, change the type of file to a Word 93-2003 document. (compatible format)

You can't open it on 2003 unless you used the "save as" option in 2007. There is no "backward compatibility". Sorry.
