so today my fiance and i almost died?
this happened today (in my fiances words)
So, i was driving to newport today, to see my parents, and my car randomly burst into plumes of smoke
I was going around a roundabout, and the engine decided to rev itself to full throttle, OVER rev, produce copius amounts of smoke, then cut out.
I got the engine started, the smoke started again, so i took the key out of the ignition, and the car decided to become possessed by all things evil, and keep revving even though there was no power going to engine at all!
at this point there was 2 options... the engine cuts out, and screws up never to be used again
OR
the engine explodes, kills a few people, and is never to be used again.
Luckily for us, it was option a...
what i want to know is... wtf caused this?
its an 02 clio. the engine was 'supposedly' replaced about 4 months ago because a piston went and it sounds to me as though a piston has caused this problem.
does anyone have any light they can shed?
thanks in advance =)
btw... it runs on oil, the oil was everywhere after the car had its little episode.
there was plenty in the car as it was only topped up last week!
i dont get why the car was still running even with the ignition switched off and the keys in my fiances pocket 30 yards away from the car...
yeah its a diesel engine =)

yes ...when u press the accelarator pedal there's a spring that comes under tension and opens the throttle(u can see this spring in ur car when u open the hood).....it's a 50 cent spring but if get an engine job tht's not properly done then this spring some times breaks....and when tht happens the car's throttle remain open!!!...the result...the moment u push the accelarator...the spring snaps ..the engine revs and revs and revs...even if u let go of the accelarator....this is a very dangerous thing....once the car starts...even a slight push of the accelarator can cause the car to go aster and faster without stopping...glad u two are ok!!!...take the car back to the delear ship( u'll have to tow it now!)...and kick tht guy's @$$ !

The only thing I could think of is there might be an stereo "live wire" that's shorting with your ignition for the revving to continue. Maybe a fuel line or oil leaking that's causing the smoke/flames. Hope this helps.

I think you may have been watching too many scary movies, no? Or are you wanting to direct a movie, then contact Spielberg not yahoo!
Honestly, take a break from the yahoo questions, indulge in something 'different'.
Stay away from horror flicks and meditate for a time until your body is more balanced.
I know I am equally as bad by answering your question.
Think outside of the box. Be careful.

I live in Vancouver, WA, and if you are in the area, shoot me an email at jp2_we_love_you@hotmail.com and I can probably take a look at it, with the key off and out, it shouldn't have kept reving, even if it was an automatic. There's something seriously wrong there. I am assuming you meant Newport, OR btw.
