Does Islam Make Everything Haraam?

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah

I read a poster complaining about some thing that is forbidden in Islam, something that may "seem" to be minor, like doing magic tricks with cards. Some people seem to think that Islam makes everything haraam. Is this true? NO. Allah forbids to do the things that are harmful to us in one way or another, but he permits us soooo much more. What is haraam? Well, the list is pretty small. Gambling, pork, magic, alcohol, fornication and things that lead up to it, taking interest, dice, men wearing silk or gold jewelry, and a few more....

What is halaal? Every fruit and vegetable on the earth, just about. Beef, venison, chicken, turkey, lamb, in all their yummy forms. Playing soccer, running just to feel the wind whistling past you, swinging your kids around until you get so dizzy you fall down, having a picnic, marrying a pious man or woman, writing a sweet poem, reading Qur'an, remembering Allah, enjoying a sunrise......

Update:

Having a sleepover with your friends, eating apples with peanut butter, digging in the garden for worms to gross out your friends, standing in the rain, catching snowflakes on your tongue, dressing up for your husband or wife....

There are SO many things that are halaal for us, why do we seem to gravitate towards the haraam and think we can't live without it. Remember your blessings and remember the Mercy of Allah in giving us so many good things in this dunyah. Will you suffer if you don't play cards or roll dice or drink a whiskey or learn a magic trick or bet on the football game? I think you'll get over it. Just remember that we are on this earth to worship Allah and if you give up something that you like in order to please Him you will be vastly rewarded in Jannah.

May Allah make us all content with the bounties He has given us and grateful for the many permissible things in this world. Ameen.

Fi Aman Allah,

Nancy Umm Abdel Hamid

Update 2:

"What is lawful is clear and what is unlawful is clear, but between them are certain doubtful things which many people do not recognize. He who guards against the doubtful things keep his religion and his honor blameless, but he who falls into doubtful things falls into what is unlawful, just as a shepherd who pastures his flocks round a sanctuary will soon pasture them in it. Every king has a sanctuary, and God's sanctuary is the things he had declared unlawful" (Al-Bukhari).

    Dear

    Assalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahhi Wabarakatuh.

    "Subha-nal-lah-hi Wal-ham-du-lil-lah-hi, Wala-il-la-ha-iI-lal-lah, Wal-lah-hu-akbar.

    Dear Sister Muslimah UmmAbdel,

"Syukur, Al-hamdulillah" that you've spell out things that Muslim can do. Thanks for listing that Muslims "can't" do.

In another word "The Does and the Don't".

    Take my saying.

To go to "HELL" it cost lots of money.

Night Club, womanize, gambling, drinking wine, beer, etc., etc.

To go to HEAVEN. "ALL FREE".

Maybe for Pilgrim and Hajj. That's for Muslims who are able only. Other than that nothing to be paid. Think it over what I am saying.

    Wabillahhitaufiq Walhidayah Wassalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahhi Wabarakatuh.

Just enjoying a beautiful sunset on the beach, having a lovely evening with your girlfriends/sisters, sitting on the bench in a park, while eating an icecream, having a lovely romantic dinner with your husband...... the list goes on and on!

Thanks for the reminder sis that we have so many blessings of Allah to be thankful for!

I guess it's human nature though to whine about things that we are not allowed. Silly, but true!

You know, i'm a convert, and i had a discussion with an old friend not too long ago. She said 'Mmmmmmm........ i think i could never convert, even if i believed it to be true.' So i asked her why not? Her answer was: 'I would never be able to eat bacon and eggs anymore, or to enjoy a good glass of wine, and praying 5 times a day....... it's too much!'

To me the giving up things were really small sacrifices.I've gained so much more! And prayer...... those are my moments of peace and quiet, my special time with Allah. After having prayed i am totally at peace and stress free.

Hard to make that understood though sometimes!

Again, thanks for the wonderful posting!

Masha Allah Sis Nancy, you have so much wisdom. Beautifully narrated reminder you wrote there. Jazakallah Khair for it. Hugs from me. =)

And Brother Ahmad Fuad Harun too say a wise thing there~~to enter the hell will cost you a lot of money but to enter Jannah, it is almost free!! Never thought of it that way.

Again, Jazakallah Khair to both of you.

p/s : sis, you should start publishing books on Islam!! Please consider it. I can become you manager...lol~~

    wa alikom al salam

1st of all i want to clarify something u meantioned in ur question.

MAGIC tricks with Cards are not harram becouse although it is called magic but it is a kind of sport and depends on the skill of the man who is doing these tricks so they are not harram. the harram magic is the one that uses demons and evil methods. ask sheekhs about that.

another thing u mentioned is DICE . I never heard of that although I lived in saudi arabia for about 18 years, shekhs who said it is haram said so only if the game was in prayer time and the player didn't pray and that include every other game.

although haram things may appear minors but they are not and God have a wise reason why these things are haram.

the problems these days is with strict sheekhs who I think they are not even qualified to give fatwah.

those strict sheekhs need really to read , learn and to have a logic.

    God bless You .

There are few acts in Islam that's not Haraam.... not much different from the Jews who have only 10 commandments but hundreds of traditional rules.

It's a shame that Muslims consider ancient traditions more important that the basic truth of Islam..Submit to God and spread Peace and Love.

So true, so many people think of Islam as a religion to forbid everything but it is our duty as Muslims to tell them that wonderful things like watching the sun rise or set it definitely NOT haram!

Allah has made haram only the things that would be bad for us. Allah knows what is best for us and takes care of us.

    Praise be to Allah!

so true. people dont realise ALLAH has made so many things halaal for us but shaytaan forces us to look at the things that are haraam and run for them. may ALLAH guide us all.

I appreciate each and everyword of yours. Islam is a simple religion, and there is very little which needs to be taken care of. One heading under which comes many things, if one understands the main heading only, he will automatically understand the sub headings. For ex. card tricks n all. I don't appreciate it. but I cannot say if its haram because m not sure about it, but I believe its forbidden and to be on the safer side, I don't do it. ~! :)Good post mashAllah :)
