  • Old Sony Cyber-Shot Camera Does Not Work?

Hi. My husband brought home an old Sony Cyber-Shot 2.1 Megapixel Digital Camera model DSC-F55. I can get the camera to power up, and I can use the menu functions, but the LCD display is dark and though I can "take a picture" of course the resulting picture is nothing but blackness. Is there something I'm missing? Or is it simply that the lens portion of the camera is not working? Thanks!

  • What was the name of this Companion?

    Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

    Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah

Does anyone remember the name of the Companion who, before he was Muslim, would ransom the daughters of the Quraish? We know that the pagans would bury their daughters in the sand and allow them to die, astaghfirullah. This Companion used to tell people to let the girls live and he would pay for their support. Allah guided him to Islam when Allah's Messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, preached in Makkah.

  • Screen Brightness on my Clie PEG-NX73v Handheld PDA?

Hello all. My hubby brought home this Sony Clie PEG-NX73V/U handheld PDA. I bought a charger and charged it and it appears to be working fine. The only issue is that the screen is not bright. How can I change this? Thanks, I've looked everywhere and can't find the answer - I don't have the manual and the online versions don't seem to say.

  • Is there such a thing as "Misyar" Marriage in Islam?

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim - Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah

I just wanted to comment on the "misyar" marriage in Islam. It came up in connection with the "muta'ah" question.

There is NO such thing as a misyar marriage in Islam. It is a made up phrase similar to the "urfi" marriage that is practiced in some countries. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, never referred to it or practiced it and neither did his Companions or those who came after. It is a modern invention.

That being said, the components of a "misyar" marriage are NOT haraam. If a man and a woman make a contract, they are free to include ANY stipulations they wish as long as those stipulations do not go against the Qur'an and Sunnah. For instance, if I want to marry but I want to stay in my parents' home, I can stipulate that in the contract, and a man can either agree to that and we marry or he can disagree and we don't. I can give up some of my rights as I prefer.....

  • Does Islam Make Everything Haraam?

    Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

    Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah

I read a poster complaining about some thing that is forbidden in Islam, something that may "seem" to be minor, like doing magic tricks with cards. Some people seem to think that Islam makes everything haraam. Is this true? NO. Allah forbids to do the things that are harmful to us in one way or another, but he permits us soooo much more. What is haraam? Well, the list is pretty small. Gambling, pork, magic, alcohol, fornication and things that lead up to it, taking interest, dice, men wearing silk or gold jewelry, and a few more....

What is halaal? Every fruit and vegetable on the earth, just about. Beef, venison, chicken, turkey, lamb, in all their yummy forms. Playing soccer, running just to feel the wind whistling past you, swinging your kids around until you get so dizzy you fall down, having a picnic, marrying a pious man or woman, writing a sweet poem, reading Qur'an, remembering Allah, enjoying a sunrise......

  • Why Take Sin on Yourself with Useless Debate?

    Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

    Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah

Why do some questioners in the Ramadan section take sins upon themselves by asking provocative questions that are actually accusations? I ask specifically in regards to questions about Sunni vs Shia, Wahabism, and Salafism. Ignorant people are throwing mud and not caring if it hits good people or bad. Astaghfirullah! Rather than using this forum as a means of educating our brothers and sisters about Islam, or answering questions about our faith from non-Muslims, you are making hateful, ignorant comments on topics about which you are extemely ignorant. If you fear Allah, LEAVE OFF. This back and forth debate does not benefit anyone; it only confuses those who truly wish to learn and it builds hatred between Muslims. La hawla wa la quwatta ila billah. I separate myself from those who are only here to spread hatred and cause fitnah.

  • How can I write to Rush Limbaugh without paying?

Hello. I wanted to e-mail a comment to Rush Limbaugh about something he said on his radio show. If I were to e-mail him through his website, I would first be required to sign up for one of his services, a minimum of about $8 a month, a sum I have no desire to pay. What would be another way to contact him to let my voice be heard? I am not sending him a rant, merely pointing out some items with which I disagree, and I don't consider myself a supporter or a cheerleader. Thanks in advance for any answers!

  • May I give Eid Greetings to my Brothers and Sisters?

    Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

    Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah.

I just want to extend greetings to my brothers and sisters in Islam as the Eid comes. Whether you are celebrating on Friday or Saturday, I wish you all "Eid Mubarak". I pray that Allah subhanahu wa t'ala accepts our fasts, remits our sins, and helps us to be stronger believers in the coming year, Ameen.

For our friends on this board, the Eid al-Fitr is the holiday that marks the end of the month of Ramadan. During Ramadan, Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, or engaging in marital relations with our spouses during the daylight hours. We also strive to come closer to Allah with more reciting of our Scripture, the Holy Qur'an, and more praying and more giving of charity. We are instructed to be patient and to not lose our tempers. It is a month wherein we learn to appreciate the food and drink that Allah has given us, and to have sympathy for the less fortunate.

  • taskbar and desktop icons intermittently disappearing?

    Hello,

My taskbar keeps disappearing, along with my desktop icon. When this happens I cannot do anything. If I close the window I'm working in then my desktop is completely clear except for the background picture. I can't turn off the computer unless I unplug it and remove the battery. I did a windows update recently - can that have something to do with it? UGH.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Why do Muslims on Y!A rise to the bait?

    Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah and hello. I would like to ask my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters on this forum a question. Why do you rise to the bait when people post negative questions or comments? It cheapens us and is bad adab to return hurt for hurt and nasty comment for nasty comment. Allah's Messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, would never countenance such a thing.

Remember, when you are snide or rude to a person, you put him on the defensive. Even if someone is rude, or blasphemes against the religion, you should be patient and forebearing. Remember that in the early days of Islam, people used to curse Allah's Messenger, strew the ground where he walked with thorns, and even throw the offal of animals on his back when he made sujuud. He never returned insult for insult, and because of his great character many were convinced of the truth of his prophethood. Think before you type.
