What was the name of this Companion?

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah

Does anyone remember the name of the Companion who, before he was Muslim, would ransom the daughters of the Quraish? We know that the pagans would bury their daughters in the sand and allow them to die, astaghfirullah. This Companion used to tell people to let the girls live and he would pay for their support. Allah guided him to Islam when Allah's Messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, preached in Makkah.

Jazaak Allah Khair for your help!

fi Aman Allah,

Nancy Umm Abdel Hamid

He was Zaid bin Amr bin Nufail. He followed the religion of Ibrahim before the Prophet (s) became the messenger and I believe he died in that state. (Meaning that he is considered a Muslim because he worshipped one God and had nothing to do with idols even though Muhammad (s) was not yet a prophet).

Incidently, his son was Sa'eed ibn Zaid, who is one of the Ashara Mubashireen (10 who are promised paradise).

    Wa'alaikum as'salaam wr wb,

I'd tell you but i'm not sure which cd it is on and don't remember the name but i do remember the story. So either you could ask on an isalmic forum (http://www.islamicboard.com)/ if you want a quick answer or you could listen to the seerah of the prophet @ http://www.hoor-al-ayn.com/anwar-al-awlaki.html
