What makes bone marrow match?

My friends and I are getting tested to see if we are possible matches for a leukemia patient we know. Can't seem to find good information about why it's so hard to find a perfect match -so much more than blood type! If you have any information about this, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks :)

If it's anything like donating a body part, there is also tissue matching to ensure rejection is minimal and the bone marrow replacement is successful. The body has more to it than just blood type.
