Just curious?

Do not laugh...............OK, you can laugh, but when I was very young I was told once that a virus can never be cured they must run their course and that we will only be able to cure diseases. Has anyone heard this before?

They have not yet found a cure for the comon cold which is a virus

Are they not one in the same?

If they can not cure viruses are we not giving false hope to cancer and aids patients?

Will we only be able to prevent and not cure viruses?

I always heard, "despite all the advancements, they still can't cure the common cold". I think this is the standard saying.

We've made great strides in the understanding and treatment of many things both viral and not. Vaccinations have been around for ages to stop viruses. Now we have other things like Tamiflu to help in the fight against viruses, and research is being done to find cures.

Most people would be surprised to know the progress we've made against cancer.

I've already survived two forms without considerable surgery (which I was initially told to have). As my mom was passing, my brother looked me in the eyes and said "despite all our advances, there's still nothing that reverses cancer". Little did he know, but at that moment about five years ago, I was being treated to essentially do just that. (I never told the family).. and in my case, it worked.

You are right, they have not found a cure for the common cold. You can treat some of the symptoms but taking antibiotics is a waste of time unless you have secondary infections.
