Undergraduate refers to someone who is going for their Bachelor's Degree or one who doesn't have an equivalence to a Bachelor's Degree. (Ex. non-degree holder or an Associates Degree would be considered undergraduates)

Graduate refers to someone who is going for a degree that is beyond a Bachelor's Degree. (Ex. Master's Degree or PhD.)

    Hope that clears it up.

An undergraduate person either has no degree or has an associate's degree and is aiming for a bachelor's degree. A graduate has all of the required degrees and is continuing their education to achieve a master's, PhD, or Doctorate degree.

After high school (grades 9-12), students can qualify to attend university for 2 or 4 years. They enroll in an undergraduate program of study for those 4 years. Once they graduate from an undergraduate program, they qualify for further study called graduate study. In a graduate program a student can earn a Masters of Arts or of Science, or continue studying and earn a PhD, which is the highest degree.

Undergraduates are working towards their bachelor's degree. Graduate students have a bachelor's degree, and are working towards another degree: master's, doctorate, or some professional degree such as a law degree.

Undergraduate means you are working towards a Bachelors Degree. This is the one you apply to right out of high school.

Graduate means you have already finished your Bachelors and want a master's or PhD.
