Where do i start? I need to get legal guardianship over my mentally handicapped son who will soon be 18!

Other answer is correct. But, in some states, you can go directly to the probate court (or whatever they call the court that handles guardianships) and the court will help you handle the procedure without a lawyer. This is true in Georgia, for example.

You start by going to an attorney. That attorney will guide you in the process. Part of this process is that your son will have his own, court appointed, attorney. He will also have at least one medical evaluation.
