Is Barack Obama Muslim?

My friend keeps insisting that he's Muslim and that he's related to a terrorist. I keep denying that he's right but i'm not sure, i think he's Christian. Can anyone tell me Obama's proper religon?

Also, for those of you who can't tell the difference between race and religon, please don't answer this question! I know he's black!

Update:

-Taco-Honestly, i think that Barack Obama's Christian, maybe if you read details, youd know what i meant.

    Obama is not a Muslim.

Obama makes the thing about the National Anthem quite clear...

"'I was taught by my grandfather that you put your hand over your heart during the pledge, but during the Star Spangled Banner, you sing!' Obama said."

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/11/ob...

Regarding Obama "swearing in" on the Koran--wrong.

    http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2007/d...

It was Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison, not Obama.

And in fact, congressmen don't swear on any religious text. They just raise their right hand. Some carry religious texts with them.

    From Obama's site...

As the Democratic primary process heats up, we're seeing a lot of politics-as-usual campaign tactics in the media and online.

Barack Obama stands for a new kind of politics -- without partisan bickering and smear tactics.

Take a minute to read a little bit about Barack and learn why he is the only candidate who represents change we can believe in:

Barack grew up in Hawaii with his mother and his grandparents, and he lived in Indonesia with his mother and step-father for four years when he was in elementary school.

After graduating from Columbia University in New York, he became a community organizer working with churches on the South Side of Chicago. After studying at Trinity United Church of Christ, he was baptized and remains a committed and active Christian. He continues to attend regular services with his family at Trinity United Church of Christ.

Barack has never been a Muslim or practiced any other faith besides Christianity, and in January 2005 he was sworn into the U.S. Senate on his family Bible.

Below is some more information about Barack's faith and his church. You can get the facts about Barack and his background by visiting the Obama for America website:

Barrack says "I have been a member of the same church for 25 years".

That is a very vague answer and in fact not an answer rather a side step. I think he has some good ideas but- he needs to answer. Being a part of a Church doesn't necessarily mean anything more than he is a casual attendee who doesn't believe a lick of what they preach that isn't in agreement with the koran.

If he's been a member for 25 years - what faith was he before. What faith was he at birth? Did he go through all the rituals of islam? Was he circumcised at 13?

I think he needs to answer these questions:

What was his faith at birth?

If he wasn't born Christian, did he convert and why?

How old was he when he converted?

Does he still follow any islamic teachings that contradict Christian teachings?

Will he have a ham sandwich on national TV?

edit: BTW he has never said he isn't or has never been muslim. He sidesteps with the answer about belonging to the same church for 25 years.

I don't think so. I would say no, but I am not Barack or God so I cannot be for sure. But his father is.

That being said, don't you think it would be very difficult to be president at a time when we were at war with people in the religon of your father? I think it would be a conflict of interest.

No. Barack Obama is a Christian--and isn't "related to terrorists." Which everyone is well aware of.

No offense, but maybe you should cultivate a better quality of friend. You are known by the company you keep.

Just Google the answer. It's amazing how much information is out there if you just look for it.

"In Chapter 6 of the book, titled "Faith," Obama writes that he "was not raised in a religious household." He describes his mother, raised by non-religious parents, as detached from religion, yet "in many ways the most spiritually awakened person that I have ever known." He describes his Kenyan father as "raised a Muslim," but a "confirmed atheist" by the time his parents met, and his Indonesian stepfather as "a man who saw religion as not particularly useful." The chapter details how Obama, in his twenties, while working with local churches as a community organizer, came to understand "the power of the African American religious tradition to spur social change." Obama writes: "It was because of these newfound understandings—that religious commitment did not require me to suspend critical thinking, disengage from the battle for economic and social justice, or otherwise retreat from the world that I knew and loved—that I was finally able to walk down the aisle of Trinity United Church of Christ one day and be baptized."[138] He has been a member of Trinity United Church of Christ for over twenty years."

He is NOT Muslim. He is Christian. You know something, though...it doesn't matter one way or the other. He's not related to a terrorist. All that is propaganda and lies spread by people who fear difference. Bush is a terrorist and a wacky evangelical...much more scary than a Muslim.

His full name is Barack Husein Obama. The middle name is a Muslim name. I read a report that said he took his oath of office to congress by swearing on the Koran. It seems that he is a Muslim, but this fact is being played down because it would loose him the election if more Americans knew this. As for being related to a terrorist, many in the US would assume that if your are a Muslim, your faith would compromise you toward violence against "infidels" (ie nonbelievers) as verses in the Koran incite this.

I'm not trying to be racist in any way, but America will not be ready for a Muslim president for many, many years. And since he is currently one of the top two democratic candidates, I'm gonna say no, he is not Muslim. He is a Christian.

Your friend is a bigot, and is very gullible.

Would a Muslim marry a Christian woman? Or join a Christian church? Or never pray to Allah nor travel to Mecca? No. If he was Muslim, he'd be put to death in Islamic law for the above "sins".

how narrow minded you seem...what does it matter what religion, race, colour, sexual orientation, or whatever he might be.

Isn't it the ideas that make up the man?

    Think about it...

obviously you might need to think harder than others considering the how ignorant you seem in your question
