Ideas, Ideas, IDEAS?

Ok, so I have to do a project for my College Math class. It can be about anything pertaining to Math such as teaching 1st Grade Math, Construction of a bridge, the history of the math symbol Pi (however you spell it), etc.

All I need is a really good idea! I was thinking about doing MPG and Gas Prices but that seems too easy and boring. I need a little bit of a challenge (but not too much!).

ANY SUGGESTIONS?!?!?!?

Update:

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Update 2:

These are all great ideas!!! Thanks!

And, uhmm, "The One With All The Answers", hunnie, apparently you dont lol. It's obvious you couldnt think of anything. Thanks anyway!

How about you figure out how Magicians do that Math trick where they know exactly what card you're on at all times or whatever. Then come up with your own.

How about you study how astronomers calculate the size and speed of outer space objects. This one can be fun and interesting.

How about you come up with a new way to teach Algebra to High School students.

How about you attempt to figure out a way to determine a certain number of decimals of pi. Meaning...you know pi is supposedly an infinite decimal. Well they've got a way to calculate it, why don't you give pi to a hundred decimal places or something and show what formula/method you used.

Umm...since it's election time, how about show how the polling works. I know for one, I don't get that sh*t.

Well there are some ideas, if I get more, I'll put more here.

How about you show how math is used in practical use in the work place. I am an operating engineer which is a fancy term for heavy equipment operator. I mostly operate cranes so math is a matter of life and death in many cases. If you flip a rig or cause structural damage you can kill your co-workers very easily. I would be happy to share our part in this. Oh and by the way if you become an engineer please don't be an egg head like many of them are. I did a windmill job where every lift was a critical lift and the engineers convinced the management they should do our lift plans. And actually said they should operate them because they have degrees. About 5% of their plans were even close to correct. The operators who have been doing this for years know more than they could ever hope to know.

All of our numbers were from the Arabs. So history of math shouldn't begin with western civilization. However, mention drake and his owl/ Athena and her owl for history of western civilization. Everyone see the similarity right? Anyways, Americans are pagans mostly. NYC is the new Rome.

The absolute best way to turn him on is to surprise him. Make the move on him in an unusual location or setting. Break any scheduling habits you may have also. The more you talk about it, he will probably grow uncomfortable. If you play the feminist point of view...He is not going to go for it.

I would do something that you can really see that studying math is helpful in the real world like architecture perhaps

i did one on how the cycle of tidal height relates to the sin or cosine curve...

find some statistics on wave height, turn it into a graph.

and then do whatever you have to to the cosine curve to make it similiar/

example cos (x) change to cos(x/2)
