anyone familiar with the FOIL method?
i freaking HATE factoring polynomials.
can anyone help with these problems?
1. 6x^3 + 9x^2 - 3x
2. 4y^4 - 8y^3 +6y^2
3. 10x^2 + 28x - 48
4. [word problem]
The length of a rectangle is 6 m more that the width. The area of the rectangle is 40 m^2. Find the length and the width.
remember, i don't want the answer,
unless you show me how to set it up and work the problem.
those are the only ones i'm having trouble with,

1. factor out 3x
2. factor out 2y
3. factor out 2
4. A=l x w
40m^2=w(w+6)

ok....heres how.. I will work the third one to show you....
First write out the problem 1.10x^2+28x-48 underneath 10 for example write out the numbers that will go into 10 and then the numbers that go into 48. (These two numbers will give you the middle number....when you work out the equation) 2. Under 10 you should have 1,10,5,2 written. Under 48 you should have 1,48,8,6,2,24,3,16. 3. Since the numbers are multplied you can knock out 1,48,2,24,16,3 because these numbers multiplied with the factors of 10 you will get more than 48. 4. Now try it out..........FOIL (5x-6)(2x+8) 5x*2x=10x^2 -6*2x=-12x 5x*8=40x -6*8=-48 5. Combine like terms: 40x-12x=28x
Now write out the equation to check the other terms: 10x^2+28x-48 ........now you know (5x-6)(2x+8) worked.

FOIL stand for First Outer interior final Im gonna try #5 (x-4)(x+8) First is x*x that's x² Outer is x*8 that's 8x interior is for -4*x that's -4x final is -4*8 that's -32 which you wind up with x²+8x+-4x+-32 we could simplify it with x²+4x-32 :)

i don't think these are FOIL problems.
here's a sample I am familiar with. It is a method for multiplying all of these factors....
(6x+2y) (3y-4x)
F= First (6x x 3y)
I= Inner..(2y x 3y)
O= outer...(6x x 4x)
L= last (2y x 4x)
do the math and then simply by adding and subtracting like terms
the problems youy show have terms with common elements..
example..
6x + 12 x + 3x= (Pulling out 3x) 3x( 2 + 4 + 1)

1 take out that mu-f&ckin 3 and a x 3x(2x^2+3x-1).. i think ah who cares you dont need this stuff in the real world anyway
