Why won't my shower get very hot when my tub does?

After being away for 6 months, I returned to my house to discover my shower doesn't get very hot anymore. The tub still gets scalding hot. I adjusted the valve to allow the hottest water, then I completely replaced the valve with a new one. I tried upping the temperature on the water heater, but nothing has worked. While the tub is adjacent to the shower, they are not combined. Everything was fine before I left on my vacation. What happened?

I'm going to guess that a worn-out single-control lever faucet somewhere in the house is allowing cold water to flow into the hot side of the system.

If you can access the supply tubes to those single-control faucets while the shower is running, you may be able to feel them and determine if that's happening. You'll first need to get the hot water running on the test faucet so that the supply tube on the hot side gets hot to the touch, then shut it off. Then turn on the shower (or have it running already) and feel the hot supply tube - it should stay hot - if it suddenly gets cold, you've got a cross-flow between the hot and cold sides of the system.

If the pressure is not as strong as it was it could be a blockage in the hot water line leading to the shower. If there is a diverter

It could be that but I would not imagine it would have one being a separate unit from the tub. Good Luck.

Its probably mad at you for leaving it for so long. Showers are very very jealous.

maybe someone else was using it.
