Don't you find this a little creepy?

I've just entered my name into this search engine, and it came back with all sorts of information about me. It's really made me stop and just realise how easily available our personal information is, what do you think? is there any way to get my information removed from such sites?

Thank you very much indeed for your answers :)

No. It's scary in the USA there. I looked up a friend (in the USA) on some sort of REVERSE PHONE NUMBER site and it told me EXACTLY who lived in their household. I couldn't believe it. And for a fee it would give you a background check on any of those people.

Makes you wonder what rights you have left if all that info is public.

--Amazing that site even has your BIRTHDAY. How do you people prevent Identity Theft if all that is public? What more did you lose thanks to the Patriot Act?

A reverse cell phone lookup service I have used is http://reversephone.toptips.org/

Enter the number in the system and they will tell you a lot of informations about the phone number and the person who owns it.

If they have extra details you will have to pay for the report.

Free reverse phone lookup sites generally don't provide anything interesting. To get further information, money will have to be paid. The free searches do not provide much more than what can be found through the phone book.

The best thing is that you can get informations about anyone!!

  • There really isn't a way to have that information removed. Most information is public and can be easily obtained by anyone who knows how to find it and can afford to pay for membership.

No, I don't think it's creepy, but it is an invasion of your privacy. You may want to write to the credit bureaus and ask to have some outdated information deleted. That way people can't access information that is no longer valid.

Also, there are ways to hide your identity. You can research it on the Internet, or write me a letter. I have SOME information you may find useful.

Well, you obviously have been on the web for a while and have entered your information in to many data bases. And, possibly you have purchased items online and have done some other business that includes information exchange. So, unless you're not on the web and are unlisted by your phone company, then, chances are that your information is out there! You can try contacting those companies, but, unless you're some kind of an enigma, I doubt it.

I'm afraid that you are stuck with your information being out there in Cyber Space :( Sorry

It is public information. You would be surprised on how much more people could really find out about you.

Go to the web site for your local county clerks office. If it is like the one in our city, you can look up anyones criminal history for law breaking. Driving infractions, time in jail etc...

In the source you can find the best option to get criminal records. It is important to keep in mind that a free background check on the Internet will only take you so far and also that some companies may only update their information periodically therefore you may be looking at information that is no longer relevant (such as an address for example). Before beginning a search on someone else consider doing one on yourself to see what information you come across. Is the information accurate or not?

reverse phone number search compiles hundreds of millions of phone book records to help locate the owner's name, location, time zone, email and other public information.

Use a reverse phone lookup to:

Get the identity of an unknown caller.

    Identify an area code.

Recall the name of a person whose number you wrote down.

Identify an unfamiliar phone number that shows up on your bill.

You might get individual websites to remove the information, but in all likelihood not. The biggest per centage of it is there to stay. A type of immortality, no?

yes, it is creepy indeed and there's nothing you can do about it. I remember that I was once looking for some info about a person in here (I thought they gave a fake name and location) and it gave me all sorts of details about them and their families. all I can say is that the only way to protect yourself is not to give your name or other info about you on the Internet!
