Many religions claim that celibacy help direct the mind toward the holy. Some sports figures also claim that sex weakens endurance..I don't know.

I'm not sure, and I doubt anyone is (who would be in the position to know about Gandhi's sex life, particularly if both he and his alleged partner denied it existed)?
I would say the greater question is, why do we care about Gandhi's sex life? I care about as much about Gandhi's celibacy as I do about whether Einstein wore boxers or briefs, or how strong Lincoln liked his coffee. The lives of these men contained marginally more interesting aspects than the trivialities of everyday life.
