Oscar gaping at top of tank?
Hi, my year old Oscar, within the past few hours, has started swimming at the top of the tank with his mouth opening and closing slightly. I say swimming, but it seems like he's just going with the water current. He has gone through some stress the past couple of days with a tank change since his last one sprung a few leaks. I'm assuming this behaviour is due to stress, but I've seen fish do this before they die. Is there anything I can do to help? The water quality is A+, and I have put in StressCoat not too long ago.
Thanks
Ammonia is 0, nitrate 20ppm pH 7.2 temp 78 degrees. I kept the filter media and gravel from the original tank, and about 1/2 the water. The rest of the water I added was tap water treated with conditioner.

well being its not the water conditions,
it could be a number of things,
I am an oscar owner myself buthave never had this problem,
Try Putting a little fish for him to play with to get him more lively. or your could add salt to add salinity to reduce stress.
Or if the oscar is sick on the last resort take him to the vet.
Hope this helps!

You say the water quality is A+, but what are the actual test readings?
It does sound like a water quality problem, especialy if you have had to move tanks recently. Where the original filters moved with the fish? or have they been compromised and the bacteria killed off.
As an emergeny measure I would do a large (50%) water change. If he perks up after that then I suggest you do have a filter/water problem and you will need to keep doing water changes untill your filters recover or you can move some working biofilter into the tank.
Good luck
