My laptop speakers stopped working?
I know there have been similar questions asked, but I need a little more info.
I have an HP Pavilion dv6000. The speakers suddenly stopped working, but headphones work fine. (Of course my warranty expired 2 months ago!) After hours of trying to figure this out (I'm not a very technological person), I'm resigned to trying to reinstall the sound driver from the hp website. The problem is, when I try to install it, I get the following message: "You must accept the HP Download Manager software to use HP's automatic features.
Your security settings may be preventing installation of the ActiveX control needed to use HP's download manager." I tried deactivating my Norton, but that doesn't help.
Usually when that type of message appears, there is also an information bar that I just click on to install the Active X control-but this time there was none.
I have the option to just download it to my hard drive, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it if I do that.
Help!

You can use the option to download it and just run it like you run any other program you download. Though as been said, if the headphones are working the issue isnt with the driver. But anything is worth a try.....
(Make sure you remember where you know where you download it to.)

Make sure the sound is on your system. Is the speaker icon X'ed out in the task bar? If not sounds like your speakers might be blown and may not be a driver issue. If your having problems downloading the driver try downloading and searching for it on www.driverguide.com. If Norton is blocking it from the HP Website try disabling until next restart or what ever options it gives you. Maybe intefering with your download.
You can pick up parts on Ebay cheaper than HP if you search good. HP also has a repair manual where you open up your system and do it yourself step by step.
If your not comfortable to operate on your laptop just take it to a shop.

For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/axb5S
Install your drivers for the sound card. Are your speakers powered? Did they get unplugged? Does the outlet work or is the breaker for it tripped? Is a power strip turned off? Check all your connections for the speakers to the computer. Do your speakers have an external volume control, and ON/OFF switch? Check the software for your sound. Sometimes there is an adjustment for sound for headphones/ or speakers. Check your sound in the Control Panel of your computer to make sure all the appropriate boxes are checked. While you are at it check to make sure your sound is using the sound card software and not the modem or something else. Good luck.

i used to work in laptop repair, and the troubleshooting incidence in hp laptops is very high, usually the best thing to do is change the speakers because the repair is very expensive, maybe you should check if the system is not asking you for administrator permission, or check the internet options for the download options of active x, but my best shot would be the physical damage of the speakers

Make sure that those speakers are the default speakers: Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Audio tab and make sure that the Altec Lansing speakers are your default for audio.

try this and i hope this helps:
go to:
-control panels
-system (system properties)
-hardware
-device manager
-sound video and game controllers
(find a yellow exclamation mark, click on that and DISABLE IT)
your computer should automatically find it and install it. otherwise, click on ENABLE and search the hardware.

If the headphones work, there shouldent be anything wrong with the driver itself.
