  • What does Restore File System do on PS3?

Does it just fix what is messed up, or does it delete everything? Weird confetti-looking colors are showing up on my son's games, and when he contacted Activison for support, they recommended he try this. (There is also an option to Restore PS3 System, but their tech support stressed that Restore File System is what we should try). I just don't want him to lose everything.

  • When did the clothing industry decide that petite people are tall?

I'm about 5'2" - 5'3" - just got a job and I'm trying to buy new dress pants. I'm finding that petite sizes, even with my highest heels are STILL going to need to be shortened! This is very frustrating. Anybody know of a store in PA that might not be following this trend??? ARGH!

  • How would you handle this?

My 14 year old stepdaughter lives in another state with her mom, stepfather and half-siblings. She has half-siblings with us as well. My husband and his ex-wife are NOT on speaking terms. My step-daughter recently told her grandmother (my husband's mom) that they were traveling here for Thanksgiving (since both the mom and step-father are originally from the area where we still live).

My mother in law contacts my step-daughter's mom occasionally by email, just to be nice, ask for updated pictures, etc. About a month ago, the mom told my MIL that they changed their minds about coming up for Thanksgiving. We recently learned from a mutual friend that the mom's myspace page indicates that they really are coming here and that she probably lied to my MIL.

My stepdaughter hasn't said a thing about it to any of us, so we figure she must know her mom lied to us. But considering that they'd have traveled halfway across the country, don't you think the kid deserves to see the rest of HER family, too - considering she has grandparents AND 80, 90 and 100 year old great-grandparents?

Do we let it go, or call them out on it?

  • Driver's side mirror on my 2006 GMC Sierra is not working?

I can't adjust it and the turn signal doesn't work on it either. Is there a fuse or something that is blown? The passenger side works just fine.

  • Am I being paranoid about head lice?

My son's best friend's little sister was sent home from school today with lice. So far, his friend is lice-free, but am I being paranoid for treating my kids anyway? My stepdaughter had lice a few years ago and it was a nightmare.

  • Do I need to include my last 2 years as a stay at home mom on my resume?

And if so.....what do I say?

I took 2 years off from my 11 year banking career and I'm looking to get back into it. How do I explain my past 2 years of "unemployment" on my resume in a professional way?

  • 30G ipod - SDRAM Full Test??

My son has a 30G ipod. I think one of his little brothers was messing with it and now I don't know what to do. The top of the screen says SDRAM Full Test. In the middle of the screen it says:

    Please Wait....

    Run: BL on

    Pass: BL blink

    Fail: BL off

    Reset to continue.

It's blinking on & off, but I don't know what to do to make it stop. I tried to hold down the middle button and the menu button - like when it freezes, but nothing happens when I do that.

  • Microsoft Office Product Key?

I got a new laptop & the Office that came with it was some kind of trial thing that has since expired. Can I use the product key from the one on my old laptop, since I'm not going to be using it anymore, or is that totally illegal? Will it even work?

  • What was the big deal about the Pace Cars?

I read in today's paper that NASCAR wasn't happy that the Pace Cars in the Vegas race were decorated to look like police cars. I noticed it during the race & thought it was kind of cool - what's the big deal?

  • "Threats" of violence on 2/29?

Parents in our school districts received letters saying that grafitti has been found in or near some of the high schools & neighborhoods that is being perceived as a threat related to Leap Day-2/29. Schools will remain open that day, but the high schools will have increased security & the elementary schools will have increased police patrols. Parents do have the option of keeping their kids home that day and the absence would be excused. My question is - If your school sent home such a notice, would you send your kids to school that day - why or why not?

  • My laptop speakers stopped working?

I know there have been similar questions asked, but I need a little more info.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000. The speakers suddenly stopped working, but headphones work fine. (Of course my warranty expired 2 months ago!) After hours of trying to figure this out (I'm not a very technological person), I'm resigned to trying to reinstall the sound driver from the hp website. The problem is, when I try to install it, I get the following message: "You must accept the HP Download Manager software to use HP's automatic features.

Your security settings may be preventing installation of the ActiveX control needed to use HP's download manager." I tried deactivating my Norton, but that doesn't help.

Usually when that type of message appears, there is also an information bar that I just click on to install the Active X control-but this time there was none.

I have the option to just download it to my hard drive, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it if I do that.

  • Colorful balloons on car lots?

This is probably going to sound stupid, but it's bugging me.

As I've been driving around lately, I've noticed that most of the car dealers are attaching those big, round, colorful balloons on the cars on the lot to attract attention. What do the fill them with - or are they special balloons of some kind? Normally I'd assume it's helium, but I know helium balloons usually shrink with the cold (and it's FREEZING here) and these balloons don't appear to be suffering any effects from the cold.

    Just wondering ....thanks!

  • Ice and snow covered sidewalks!?

I just got back from walking my son to school. We had snow, sleet & freezing rain that ended on Sunday. The public sidewalks in front of half the houses are still totally covered with ice. If the city would cite these people, they'd never have to raise my taxes again.

Does this drive you crazy, too - or am I being over-sensitive??

  • Myspace "Extended network"?

My stepdaughter has a MySpace account that is monitored by her mother. Her dad occasionally searches her name just to see what picture she has by her name (she changes it often) but we don't have a myspace account. When he looked at it today it said she was "in your extended network" - what does that mean if we don't have myspace accounts?

  • Negative side effects from Concerta - have you switched to something else?

Help! My 9 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 5. He's been on Concerta ever since. It really helped him be more successful in school. He started on 18 mg, went to 27, then 36 mg. A relative who came to stay with us noticed that he seemed really "mean" when he took his medicine. Shame on me for not noticing, but I was so used to him being that way, that it became the norm. I started giving him weekends "off" and really saw what our relative meant. His counselor recommended going back to the lowest dose to give him the stimulation he needs, but hopefully lessen the side effects. It still makes him nasty. Without the medicine he is happier, but fidgets so much in school that it is distracting the class.

Have you (or your child) quit Concerta for this reason? What did you switch to? Did it help? I need to contact his doctor, but I was hoping for some help from others who have been there. Thanks.

  • How can I take digital pictures at night without them getting blurry?

My digital camera is a Nikon Coolpix 4800.

I've been trying to take pictures at a racetrack at night. My daytime pictures come out fine, but whenever I take pictures at night, the images get all blurred looking. At night they light the track (like a stadium). I could understand a picture of a moving car being blurry - but even the pictures I take of people standing still look weird - like the person's blurry twin is standing right next to them.

The manual is confusing - I don 't understand much of the terminology in it.

I've been busting my butt to get to Level 4 - and I finally made it. So where's the confetti? The party? The marching band?
