Ice and snow covered sidewalks!?

I just got back from walking my son to school. We had snow, sleet & freezing rain that ended on Sunday. The public sidewalks in front of half the houses are still totally covered with ice. If the city would cite these people, they'd never have to raise my taxes again.

Does this drive you crazy, too - or am I being over-sensitive??

I'm with you. It is everybody's responsibility to clean them in a timely manner.

You are not considering the fact that many people have other problems beside cleaning the sidewalk, perhaps they may be sick or have the age of 99, living alone or out of town, perhaps they are broke living off S.S. and out looking for work because they have five children with no food in the house. PLUS- Lucille took a fine time to leave him with crops in the field.

Bottom line is you may be a little over-sensitive so why not try to help out the people who need the help instead of running to the city hall and requesting to cite somebody.THINK ABOUT IT.

My city does cite people that are repeat offenders. I live on a corner lot and have too much sidewalk. My husband normally handles the shoveling but had a stomach virus this weekend. I shoveled as much as I could but my asthma keeps me inside in the winter. There aren't people walking to school in my neighborhood, the bus comes. On my way into work I find people walking in the streets because the sidewalks aren't clear. That is dangerous! I can't believe parents allow their kids to walk in the streets like that.

Your being over sensitive..Number one, some of those people work for a living, being from the midwest...It's very hard to keep your sidewalks clear every day because overnight ice develops..Number two, some of those people are old..I for one didn't have the time to keep my sidewalk clear all through the winter every single day..Sorry it's a fact..Some cities do that around the school..Some do not..If it's a problem for you why don't you drive him to school in the winter..I live in Texas now so thank god I don't have to deal with ice and snow anymore

If the city wants my part of the sidewalk cleared they can do it themselves. I had to shovel my driveway alone and 8inches of snow is quite a lot of work to do for a whole driveway. What really irked me is that my neighbor next to me and the one across the street both have snow blowers and no one offered to help and then while I was trying to shovel out the stupid snow plow came down the street and blocked us in again. Everyone is soo nice and all smiles and then when the snow falls they act like they don't even know you.

  • I am one of those people that the city would have to cite...Sorry! I know that it is very inconsiderate of us not to clean off our sidewalks. I just didn't have the time when it was just the ice, I cleaned off most of the snow though...but it is still pretty slick. I hope it will melt soon.

Some people aren't physically capable of getting out and cleaning the snow and ice off the sidewalks. I don't think you are being overly sensitive, I think you are being overly intolerant.

I agree! People should definitely shovel the snow around their properties and put out salt for the ice. This would prevent injuries. I don't thin the city should cite them but people should be more responsible about it.

You are so right! My mother was just making the same complaint about her neighbors. Also, I work in Boston, in the financial district - tons of pedestrians - and on Monday the sidewalks were snow covered glaciers.

All of my sidewalks are covered in snow, so ice doesn't bother me.

we have to keep our sidewalks clear in bad weather and we aren't allowed to park in the street because of the plows if we do it's at our own risk if our cars get damaged.
