PLZ Help..............My only remote control doesn't open my garage door anymore. What do I do?
the garage door system is around 15-20 years old so you know what I must be going through. The system is a Genie 9800 series. I bought a universal remote and that didnt work either. what should I do, should I buy another reciever or an up to date motor that comes with its own remotes.

I used to have a garage door that was really picky about the way the antenna was pointed; however, I'm not even sure if they still have the antenna wires that hang down anymore, but that was definitely a problem with mine. If there's an "eye" on the unit in the garage, could it be dirty and need cleaning? Can you reprogram the opener with your original remote? Sorry, I know how frustrating this must be but these are all the things I'd check on...oh, I forgot, what a about the breaker for the garage? My opener was on it's own circuit since it was an add-on to a 1939 house. Do the openers have a reset button like a garbage disposal?

Hi, Loews or Home Depot have Universal remotes for $20. You can easily program your door opener to recognize your new remote by following the remote's manual. You'll likely just need a ladder to press on a couple buttons on the door opener hanging from the ceiling of your garage. Good luck. Andres

Chances are the box with the dip switches is no good. Consider replacement of the entire opener. You will find that a new opener is safer because of the sensors that install on each side of the door opening and the force feature that will stop the opener if someone/something gets in the way. New openers can be found for under $150 and install easily. Additional features are available on many models including keypads and remotes for the lighting in the house as well.

I assume the opener works via the inside button? That is, it's connected to a power source, and that there's not a tripped breaker or tripped ground fault interrupter (outlet with test/reset buttons).
If the inside button control doesn't work, and the opener is plugged into a live outlet, are there any limit switches that are out of whack (i.e. jammed, stuck, wires disconnected) ?
If none of that seems plausible, are you sure your remote hasn't been messed with, specifically, that the code hasn't been changed either in the remote or at the GD opener?

the correct way to program a remote (each opener is a tad different) is to go up to the actual opener. on the sides/back/top/front there will be a program button. what you do is hold that button in until you get an indicator light to come on then you press and hold your remote until it flashes off. if you need to reprogram it probably means that you lost electricity sometime and you didnt even know it

That's a pretty old system. I probably would replace it with a new one. If you don't want to do that, I would try getting a Genie remote. Go to their web site and you should be able to find one that's compatible with your system.

you have to go to the place where you bought the garage door opener and request baterries for it.
