Whats your electric Bill?
Looking to buy a house, wondering what to expect. List 1.) how much you pay. 2.) how many square feet your house is, and 3.) is your primary source of heat electric?
Right now I pay 30$ a month, in the middle of winter (I keep my thermostat at 55 degrees). So tell me, what do you pay... I'm bracing myself.
Also any other details... like is your house old and drafty? New and super insulated? Passive solar? Any other useful information.

First off, I couldn't handle 55. I keep it at about 69. The house is 34 years old, 1250 sf, but double that if you count the live in basement area that has a walk out basement. New windows, extra insulation in the attic, cracks sealed, all that, extra rooms closed off. I have a wood burning stove and base board electric heat, with individual thermostats in each room and an electric hot water heater. I have a combo gas/electric range. My last electric only bill was $450. I'm on my third cord of wood, which costs about $180 a cord. I wash and dry a lot of clothes. Our electric rates are way crazy--bill is about $200 higher than previous years for this time of year. Deregulation. Electric company says we'll have brown outs/black outs this summer if they don't get more money.

We live in East Texas. Our house is all electric with good insulation and a high efficiency heat pump. The house is 4,000 square feet and we keep the thermostat at about 75 degs. We pay a little over 10 cents per KWH and our yearly average will is about $215 per month for about 2150 KWH.

I live in Mississippi in a two story house which is not total electric. We have gas for heating and a fire place. We do have elec. hot water heater. We have two central air conditioners.
This months bill was $95. In the summer it is $200. But understand it is very hot in Mississippi.
My house is 20 years old with lots of insulation. But you have to realize where we live and how hot it is down here.

Right now I have been paying under two hundred dollars a month on a house about 1635 ft primary source of heat is fan forced coleman gas whole house heater we generally keep our thermostat at 70 degrees but we only use the heater very little like at night when we are watching TV and we turn it off when we go to bed then turn on space heaters to keep the rooms warm when we are using them we try not to keep heater on for too long as it can get very expensive nowadays like about two hundred fifty dollars a month, we do have some drafts coming from our windows as they are standard type windows and we are situated in the desert and it gets very cold here and sometimes gets snow on occasions in the winter also get some draft from our fireplace flue but we cover that when not in use to minimize the draft situation our back door also allows some draft in but that is remedied by using a inside door to cut down on the draft, then I put some draft stoppers under other doors in the home to cut down on drafts I believe this is what is also helping to cut down on the electric and gas bills to heat the home as well It just helps if you are resourceful and use preventive measures to cut down on the heating bills as per what I have mentioned above My house is also twenty years old Rooms are also closed off when not in use to maintain some heat and 55 in my home the heater would not come on let alone not being warm enough for us to handle our windows came with the home but do need to have them replaced with dual glazed windows but can't afford it at the moment so I plan on purchasing that window film insulating kit to help cut down on window drafts as I have many windows and bay windows in the home I also alternate with a pellet stove for heating the house to cut down on the expense of the heater bill Good Luck !
