What is good and evil?

I'd like an answer that doesn't have a basis solely on religion.

what is good for you should be good for me. and likewise bad

But he E word is contrived by really incredibly stupid people to demonize what they are afraid of or don't understand or worse don't want you to understand. You CAN hold western religion responsible for it because they created the word to describe the actions, thoughts and goals of one another. Somewher along the line the rest of us got dragged into it

well, i think that the answer is different for every situation. sometimes only history can decide which is which. by that, i mean, the people in the future will be the ones to choose. i mean, things change- people thought slavery was ok, but now it'stotally opposite.

there are also situations that the people in the situation choose. for example, if the person thought what they were doing was ok, and thought of it as the best thing to do- and did it for a reason (and it was where their morals lay) then how is that evil (i mean, if i didn't hurt anyone)? now if they knew better and did something bad, it's a totally different story. it's also different if others tell them it's wrong but they don't think so and they do it- that's evil... (i'm not talking of religion)

everything truly evil is done with a bad intention or motivation. the person doing it knows it's bad. like, u can't say if u accidentally cause ur friend to die, ur evil.

now good is different. u can b not evil, but not good. good (opposite of evil) is the opposing force. if ur good, u will try to help people, or do what the opposite of evil would do. if evil kills, u'll save. if evil lies, u'll say the truth. get it?

good question.....lol.......before one understands the difference I think it is important to know what someone's nature is....by nature I mean who the person is....because good and evil are a matter of opinion....not neccessarily fact if a woman is sleeping around for money most people would naturally call her a whore or some really religious fanatics would call her behavior "sinful," but maybe for her she needs this "occupation" because she has three kids to feed and is an ex-convict and she can't find employmenr-in this case one can see that she is just trying to get by-survive-exist. And now for evil-a lot of people may think Adolf Hitler was evil because of the holocaust that occured-but I ask what if as leader he did the opposite of what he did-instead of the millions of killings, what if he spent his time thinking for the preservation of life by helping others along the way instead of all the hatred within in him- and also what if everyone under Germany revolted/rebeled and did not follow his orders-that is the power of individual thought-It is of my belief that the word evil is defines itself it is specific to the individual....I personally don't like the word because it stimies one's thinking/thought from realizing the idea that can be not for just what it is.Perhaps evil is living life without question, individual thought, to not truly realize one's own potential....

There is no accurate answer that is not based on religion because the concept of dualism is religious in origin. The fact is that there is no logical reason to conceive of the world in terms of good and evil. In fact, if humanity could abandon dualism in favor of viewing the world as simply being what it is, life would become much more peaceful and humane.

Good and evil are in some ways, a perception. It is a classification of qualities, behaviours, or acts, based on perceived morality, and 'typically' (most of the time, not always) separated in the form of emotional harmony or disharmony.

The dictionary defines evil as qualities tending to injury and mischief, while good is defined as having desirable qualities. Of course, everyone would have their own definition of good and evil. There are acts which may appear evil to one, but good for another. If we look at the definition of evil for example, one must ask themselves 'what constitutes injury?' and 'What constitutes mischief?.' Thus, the definition varies, based on one's perception.

Good is something that makes the world better or people happy evil would be like destroying things for no reason and hurting people in anykind of way.

I suspect good and evil are man-made concepts that serve to keep the individual where he wants to be. Socially, professionally, politically and psychologically. Full of hypocrisy and double standards.

i believe there are 2 goods and evils, there is societies, and then there's your own. society sets its own rules, and then ours is guided on how different actions make us feel, and how they influence us
