Why would I get a thumbs down for saying gay men make the best girlfriends?

hahaha I just got a thumbs down in some other post for stating that a gay man makes a great girlfriend.

Some of my BEST friends ARE gay men and they DO make the best girlfriends a gal ever had. Too much fun to hang out with and do lunch and shopping and the nightlife!

Honestly, they DO make better friends than some of my women friends!!

But I can't call them a boyfriend. Since they are more like a girl.

Some straight people will thumbs down anything positive about gay people. Some gay guys will take offense at the term 'girlfriend.' A lot of us are perfectly comfortable with the somewhat campy term girlfriend to refer to a gay friend. I would never give it a thumbs down. I assume the 'more like a girl' refers to the fact that is a non-sexual non-threatening relationship like you would have with a girl bff, not just to the fact that the the guy is effeminate.

You probably received thumbs down because people do not agree with you. Perhaps they feel that gay men "make" good friends as opposed to "good girlfriends", considering the simple fact that gay men are male.

Maybe because you generalized how a large group of people act.

Edit: Actually you generalized how two large groups of people act. Gay men AND women. Not all women like those things, and not all gay guys do.. and not all straight guys don't. Maybe the people who gave you thumbs down don't like being considered "girlfriends" since they're guys? Idk. If you expect people to always agree with you, you're going to be disappointed a lot.

One of my best friends calls me "girlfriend" all the time (I'm a gay guy, btw.) It may have something to do with the perceived right to call your gay male friends "girlfriend" just like homosexuals claim the sole right to call one another "f@ggot" or blacks who call one another "****@." Many feel that unless you're a card-carrying member of said group, usage of such terms is off-limits and you are expected to conform to the conventions of polite society and not call other people names.

LOL, why do you care so much about a thumbs down!

I learned that there are silly people who like to thumbs down people for anything that they say!

I used to be like you =]

That's because some gay people can't seem to take compliments. They always think that someone is secretly prejudice against them.

because by making that statement, people who don't know you and your relationship with your male friends assume you are making a stereotypical blanket statement about ALL gay men. While your gay friends may be effeminate I can assure you that most gay males are not.

Because some gay guys get all p!ssy and huffy when you relate to them as you would another woman. All I got to say is BAWWWW don't be so insecure in your masculinity.

Source(s): Edit: Thank you thumbs down for proving my point. :D
