You can take out the "too much" part, since if you tan at all you'll make the tattoo fade. Yes, it will fade over time itself, but those grizzled old sailors didn't get their mermaids & anchors blurred by chance.
If you *have* to tan, cover the tattooed area or (at minimum) use high SPF protection for UVA & UVB. You're still fading the ink but will at least be taking some steps to minimize the damage.

YES DEFINITELY!! It's no secret that sun damages our skin. We're always told to use sunscreen. The same is true for our tattoos. I have one on my arm that is almost 11 years old, and I always use sunscreen. It is starting to fade, but very little. Someone else I know with a tattoo on the shoulder does not use any sunscreen ever and that tattoo is much more faded and it is only two years old.

Yes. I grant you, it DID take a long time (15 or so years). But mine faded a LOT by tanning. The color yellow almost faded out completely. I had to have them both re-colored. I now use a sunblock on my tattoos when I tan and it keeps them nice and colorful. They sell this thing at the tanning salons (I can't remember the name of it) ....... it comes in a little white twisty tube that has a dragon or something on the front. It twists up, kinda like chap stick and your color your tattoo with it before tanning.
That applies to any kind of tanning....in the sun or at the salon.

Having a passion for body at and being a sun-worshiper just don't go together. If you care about your ink I would recommend kissing goodbye to sunbathing/sunbeds, etc.
I used to like getting a tan before I embarked on my love afair with tattoos. Nowadays I prefer to seek shade because I want my ink to stay colourful for as long as possible.
I use spf factor 50 (baby sun block) when I go out on a warm or hot day and I also use plenty of vitamin e cream such as cocoa butter during winter.

Yes, over time tattoos fade (the location of the tattoo will also affect how quickly it does so). The sun certainly helps this process along.
As someone already mentioned, use sunscreen to protect your ink. Simply put...faded tattoos = bad.

Tattoos are pigment just like your skin, so yes the more sun you get the more it will fade, I know I've been Tattooed since 1980

Yes. It takes a long time, but exposure to the elements (sun, water, etc.) will cause a tattoo to fade over time. Get someone to put a good coat of sunscreen over your tat and reapply it often. It will prolong the length of time between touchups.

Yes it could, we have a tanning bed and it hasn't made anyones tatoos lighter. All you have to do is cover it up! Or even get it touched up after awhile. All tatoos fade eventually. Hope I helped. :]

It will fade over a very long period of time. It will probably take years before you even notice it. (It won't go away though.) Just put sunscreen on it!
